It Goes On and Long

>> Last time I scribbled on some of Topshop's transitional spring lookbook pages, I forgot to post one of the images where I had drawn a very happy arrow heading downwards on a long skirt to indicate that I was most pleased that skirt hemlines had dropped.  It seems like a very old fashioned fashion notion whenever we're discussing the lengths of hemlines given that they sort of defined various decades in the 20th century.  That said, the return to a longer length has been noted by most and I've been on the longer track for a while now.  I'm most probably preaching to the converted.  Perhaps I'm not even preaching at all and instead, just merely rejoicing that a simple thing such as a long skirt is available in its purest form on the high street and certainly Topshop does tick the maxi skirt box fairly comprehensively at an affordable price (though you can also head down to COS where a certain weighty knitted tiered maxi skirt is currently 50% off!).  In addition though, not so basic longer options are also available and given that I haven't had a Topshop splurge in a while, I dropped in to get some of the twisted basics that all veered towards a longer length, mostly courtesy of the versatile Boutique range.  If the last time I dabbled in long, was about dressing up like a My Fair Lady Cecil Beaton's race scene-inspired chocolate box, then this time, with the new found basics that I'll wash and wash and wash, this long tale will have an even longer tail… (hardy-ha-ha…)

  1. I’m obsessed with longer skirts as well, wore only long skirts the whole time I was shopping in NY and felt GOOD in them. Comfortable yet still felt like had something nice on. A very nice change, and no tugging at the hems of a mini that’s riding up…and no flashing the people below me on escalators!

  2. Absolutely loving these outfits…I’ve been on with longer skirts for a while now, but most of mine are more winter-y…so my next few sewing projects are going to be long skirts, I hope.

  3. I’m a big fan of Topshop Boutique. These outfits are great; esp the silk maxi dress, Alexander Wang wedges and the combined kimono & rock tee x

  4. i’m not really sure about your combinations of clothes.. each piece works as beautiful individuals but i’m unsure whether they work just appearing to be randomly thrown together? i feel that it looks a little too ‘try-hard’? perhaps? for instance your little suspender tight things are so hot, with a pair of biker boots and a little skirt or pair of shorts, which are in the magazines at the moment, perhaps a waterfall jacket and a little t-shirt? then you’re keeping it simple.. because when i look at the outfit you have on, i don’t know where to start really! the shoes are fab, tights are fab, beautiful jacket is fab, but all thrown together – i’m unsure. haha sorry for the essay, just ignore this completely if you want!! other than that i love the hair (very in fashion at the moment) and the red lips 🙂

  5. Charly Smith: That’s perfectly acceptable of you to say so… I do tend to complicate things for myself but that is my way of dressing…. i’m not all that concerned with things that are err…. ‘in the magazines at the moment’… so long as I personally like it…
    To each their own I guess…. !

  6. This is my favourite outfit post of yours for a while – I adore every single outfit. The way you put clothes together is amazing!! You really suit red lips. 🙂

  7. your reply has boosted my love for your blog! the fact that you’re confident in your own skin and don’t care for ‘fashion’ and what’s in the magazines right now, makes you your own person, which is a rare and very special thing. keep up your love for all things different and beautiful x

  8. I detest long skirts. They may look fine on other people, but 13 years of private school dress code has made me hate them on my body.
