Those Crazy Kids

I'm never quite sure when I'm posting about designers from other countries who have been showing quite regularly in their own local fashion weeks, if I'm just merely pointing out something hideously obvious to those in the know.  This is the case with Barcelona-based label El Delgado Buil, whose work I came across via working at Dazed, who have been showing at Cibeles Madrid Fashion Week for a while.  El Delgado Buil are Anna Figuera Delgado and Macarena Ramos Buil who have been creating collections since 2005 and I'm not illustrating it well here because I'm a selfish (mainly) womenswear blogger but their collections are actually mostly weighted between womenswear and menswear with their initial collections probably leaning more towards the latter.  To add comparisons to other designers may be a bit of an insult to them (kind of like when lazy music journalists say every band is the "new Bloc Party") even though to me, they are a mix of Peter Jensen, toned-down Jean Charles-de-Castelbajac, a touch of Bernhard Willhelm and in later seasons, with the added girliness of Luella.  Drat.  I fell into the comparison trap anyway.

This is their S/S 10 'Majorettes' collection… balancing whimsy with practicality and then throwing in a few unexpected style contrasts which is probably the thing that makes me hard to really articulate their work…  in any case, I just know that if I see this stuff hanging on a rack in a showroom, there'd be a ton of individual items that I'd immediately want to take to my own styling tract… >

For S/S 10, they've also collaborated with Kipling for a set of bags that I've actually been considering to buy into… remember that Stella McCartney bunny backpack that I was umming and aahing over?  In the end I went with my head senses and decided that too many grabby toddlers on the bus would try and play with it.  Cathy Pill's collab with Kipling was more of a grown-up option but alas aptly pricy.  This one with its brushed print, pastel collars and rose-gold hardware is throwing up an inexpensive summer bag option…

On to El Delgado Buil's A/W 10-11 'Joiner Creek' collection… another riot of contrasts that traverse through the outdoors-y themes that have been coursing through a lot of the collections and despite the presence of the plaid, denim, textural knits and sheepskin, this still manages to be another distinctive interpretation of all of those prevalent things.
