Tipping the Velvet

>> There's been a lot of focus and 'growing up' at London Fashion Week, a theme I'll delve into with other designers but for now, let's just look to Michael Van Der Ham who moved away from his patchwork style signature and instead focused on the luxurious texture of velvet that were used magnificently in these dresses that still meshed different styles together – different sleeves, skirt lengths, bodices – but in one solid fabric that had a life of its own due to the reflective nature of this long pile velvet, the dresses actually better showcases the shape/style mish-mash that still pervades his work.  I can't help but think of this fabric as anything but 'delicious' – not sure how a fabric is tasty but there's something utterly evocative about this particular type of fabric that when moving also seems to 'ooze' delectability at every turn…
