Alright, I'm a cheater squashing two days into one post but yesterday, I was zooming around studios and showrooms with less shows (all of which I will do standalone posts on…) so hence the compressed post. I'm finally finding my feet as the jet lag has been knocked on its head. I'm discovering taxi drivers here are grumpier than the ones in Paris. I'm discovering that everyone else is super nice, super smiley and have no qualms about coming up and saying "Hello". Damn our British reserve. I'm discovering that beyond the RAFW schedule, there's a whole host of designer warren holes all around Surry Hills/Chippendale that I have yet to discover.
And so to the deets…
High necks may not be what come to mind for spring summer but Camilla and Marc's version of the high-neck is softly draped and completed with trench-coat belt-style collar straps that don't look suffocating at all…
And they had this puckered silk chiffon that looks sort of like what happens when threads pull and the material snags which is a different note to the whole distressed/ripped language…
Pip here works for Sass and Bide doing the accessories and here she's wearing the A/W 10 (the collection presented in London) palm rings and sabre tooth metal clutch that slips on as a ring…. I never really picked up on the accessories but that clutch could be the answer to a) me leaving more conventional clutches behind and b) a good accessory to hold onto that could also be a prop to dancing in a club… none of that dancing around handbags crap…
With the closer proximity to Japan, labels make it over to Australia in a bigger capacity compared to London… hence these amazing Dresscamp boots!
I'm slowly learning what all the local chains are… that there are Aussie equivalents of Zara, Topshop etc… this eclectic necklace is only $60 from Peeptoe apparently… love it against the pale pink shirt…
If I was floored by the fact that McDonalds is doing macaroons in France, hows about GHD branded ones? Nice colours though… not convinced by the taste!
Apologies to Ellery for delving into her paperback selection… I know judging covers is naff but these Penguin classics are quite pretty no?
The Ksubi boys have opened up a new bar called Flinders and I was rather taken with the tiles in the toilets… I want to be the farm girl…
Most stunning venue thus far (though it might be usurped by Dion Lee's show today at the Sydney Opera House!)? Therese Rawsthorne at the Sydney Technology Park… HUUUUUGE runway by any standards…
Kate Sylvester added to the sock garter users for this season…
…as well as the tried and tested femme/femme bride and groom finish…
Another upping of the game in 'destroyed' textures courtesy of Manning Cartell. From afar, these dresses looked like they were made of lace but up close, they were actually burnt in holes… or at least they were made to look like they were burnt…
I looked a bit pathetic sitting on my own as I went in early for Phos Phoro, holding these blooms…
Spencer Webb's Phos Phoro label added to Christopher Kane's gingham tract with this chiffon skirt where gingham turns to stripe…
Karla Spetic's S/S 10-11 collection was quietly stunning… and deceptively simple. There was a sort of slick elegance to the silk dresses, tees and these brilliant prints that depict the Australian outback…best used on the jacket in the third pic down…
Sweetest gesture ever… Vanessa of The Monday Issue rushed over to hand me a welcome card. Another case of me looking far cuter in drawings than in person but hey, I'll take the collar, heavy fringe and googly eyes and run with it…
I'm awaiting outfit pics from the photo co-conspirator but last night for the Romance was Born show (that requires a dedicated, image-heavy post…) I was most excited to wear this Tina Kalivas S/S 10 jacket which is just the best cacophony of textures and prints…
…as well as these tinsel embroidered gym shorts by Romance was Born… yarsh… tinsel… don't put them on the trees, bung them on the shorts!
I saw your photo up on the cobrasnake 😉 eeeeek the romance was born show was mind blowing (even for them!!) xx
That jacket is lovely!
Karla Spetic is the standout for me here, those outback prints are out of this world, I love the colors. The dusty pink shirt with the open sleeves is really lovely too, a good way to still be able to wear high collars on hot summer days without overheating.
Thank you for introducing me to Kate Sylvester…I love her!
I love the burnt hole dresses and that skirt at the end.
OMG! Those fringes boots are to die for!

The pics in the toilets are taken from one of the Cole’s Funny Picture Books (E.W. Cole being a Melbourne kook best described in Lisa Lang’s ‘EW Cole: Chasing the Rainbow’). I remember them well because, my name beginning with ‘L’, I grew up thinking that it was my destiny to be a Shop Girl; this alphabetical predictor being partially correct given my attraction to shops against my better judgment, as my credit card will attest.
The Paul Theroux book cover is a collage created by my husband!
Dear Susie,
Vanessa here – thank you so much for linking my blog. I really do hope you are having a nice time in Sydney. I hope you are seeing some inspiring things 🙂 All the best for the future! Hopefully one day I will get to meet you again, but in London!
xx Vanessa
Are those male kneecaps I spy behind the Dresscamp boots? Fer-osh

I really enjoyed this post, Australian fashion is so exciting. Great styles from Camilla and Marc’s, the gingham check skirt which turn into stripe looks so cool, and the ikat print, textured jacket reminds me of a combination of a Manipur shawl and Orissa Ikat that we have here in India.
