Paper Planes

All this online time means my eyes keep darting to my Tweet Deck in a nervous twitch and perhaps this will mean I won't be so SLOOOOOW about posting things.  From the tweets of the lovely Louise Gray, I caught wind of this Scott Ramsay Kyle feature in the second issue of Slashstroke magazine.  I've been waiting to hear of updated collections or updated work on his website seeing as two seasons have lapsed.  I suspect Ramsay Kyle has been busy working on collaborations and commissions.  Like this project with Slashstroke to create these special paper dresses, showing that there's versatility to his nimble fingers beyond unique embroidery and tellingly, the accompanying interview itself points out Kyle's desire to redefine his own design parameters.  Somewhere between sketchbook and needle and thread, these dresses were born…

Kyle, who happens to be an avid Tweeter, would be the perfect candidate to document his projects on a blog, given that I can't always get my fix of his work through his own collections.  Taking the Rita Saardi x Nina Ricci collab as an example, I think there's so much scope for the discovery of behind the scenes collabs that up until now have been hushed up for various reasons.  No pressure or anything, Scott to produce pretty pics of your intricate embroidery in high res!

On another paper-related note, did anyone notice the paper collaboration Jean Pierre Braganza embarked on in one of his ensembles in his A/W 10-11 collection?  No I didn't.  I was stuck craning my neck due to arriving incredibly late for the show.  Thank god for sooooper dooooper high-res images.  Braganza worked with Arjowiggins Creative Papers and their Rives Collection, using 'Le Bleu' and 'Le Noir' to craft a corset and two structured cuffs for the collection.  I love how they sort of seamlessly mesh with the dress without screaming "This is made out of paper, yah know?"

  5. The shoes are paper thin, just a drawing of a shoe, to add to the paper thin, throw away non collection that only lasted the duration of the shoot. Lots of temporary fun.
    Thanks for the post Susie.
