Rita the Flower Girl

>> Behind a maison, there's a team and for some bizzare reason, I imagine that in the future after a show, that the whole team will come out for a bow instead of just the sole creative director.  That probably won't happen but I'd like to think people will start crediting teams as a whole.  I'm also all for open collaborations seeing as shoe designers and accessories designers create specific pieces for other designers all the time.  At Nina Ricci this season, Peter Copping collaborated with Rita Saardi, a designer I've loved for her unabashed romance in her bow-decked, flower-based dresses.  Fortunately, Copping loved it too and asked her to work on the floral decorations that adorned the bust, the hips and a spectacular flowing skirt in the show (I stand corrected, this wasn't Rita's handiwork but surely her flowers lent the spirit to the rosette covered skirt…).  She's also luckily allowed to talk about the collaboration and so on her blog, she's shared her excitement of the whole experience… it's pretty much the stuff of fairytales… I'll let Rita do the talking here…

Peter kept the collection unrevealed for me, I thought that it was a wise decision, he didn't want me to get affected by what they already had started, I vaguely knew what the "story" would be about with one picture of beautiful dancers wearing silk dresses in colors that ended up to be the palette of the collection… That was pretty much the only information I got… He wanted me to make a premise quickly… In one week cause we only had three more weeks left before show time. Based on certain things he liked in my work I had to give him something he could use, and so I did…

So there we were two weeks before the show with my first propositions, me not really knowing where we will end up, but I know that he knew exactly what he wanted from me and that was quiet a nice feeling because I could just relax have fun and create as if I was doing it for my own line knowing that he would make all the right decisions for both of us 🙂

  2. I agree, a team’s talent and work should be recognized ! Most of the time, we only talk about Karl or Marc or John… and we forget all the people who imagined and created those fabulous designs.
The photos are beautiful, Rita’s work is so pure and poetic…

  3. such sublime textures! i would love to adorn my naked body in such things and then walk out to everyone’s shock!
Bottega Veneta’s window display in Milan is extremely textural at the moment, bags made of paper and things, very reminiscent of the above!

  4. Lucky girl, she deserves it! Her work is quite stunning, I particularly like the ones with the ‘petals’ stacked closer together, they remind me of carnations!

  5. Wow her pieces are really gorgeous. Love the ribbons flowers in the first one. Makes me want to try it myself…..though that could easily end in disaster.
