Cut Out Christmas

Christmas 'party season' dressing really really confuzzles me.  September-October, you stick to little black dresses and neat grey shifts and come November-December, as soon as the slight whiff of eggnog comes wafting over and the first pack of mince pies are shipped out, it's SEQUINS, VELVET and plenty of SHINY SHINY!  I've never really understood prescribed 'party season' dressing but dems the rulz that all stores and labels MUST have 'Christmas' ranges and so I too must fall in line and accept this mode of differentiation even though in reality, any 'Christmas' ranged dress I end up buying will probably get more wear beyond the days of Yuletide.

These two pieces in particular from COS's "Christmas" (heavy emphasis on those quotation marks…) range featuring a beautiful cut-out lattice detailing definitely need to see some light beyond the dark dank days of Crimbo.  At prices of ¬£150 (jacket) and ¬£129 (dress) they most certainly need to be hammered in wear.  I'm thinking the jacket could take me through some days when I'm feeling unimaginative and all I'd need to do is pop a different coloured Uniqlo heat-tech long sleeved tee underneath to fool people into thinking I'm changing it up somewhat…

  1. The jacket doesn’t look so much Christmas to me as it does cocktail lounge, which suits me fine.

  2. The jacket looks well nice. I¬¥m npt that into all those “cristmasy”dresses in strong colours and a lot of glitter. One thing that is worth enjoying a lotin Christmas tmes is Starbucks eggnod, it¬¥s so so so good!

  3. The intricate black cutouts on both pieces are stunning. I’m with you on this one–they definitely deserve year-round wear!

  4. I was hoping the cutout details on that dress were a necklace. Great possiblities there.

  5. Jesus, Cos just gets better and better. Every time I go in there I see a million incredible pieces that could be worth three times the price they are. That jacket is MINE.

  6. That dress is stunning, but Christmas belongs only in November & December! So says my Dad, and what Dad says goes because I’m still a child in that respect!
Still, makes me wish I had enough momeny to buy something that beautiful… I’d probably hang it on my door and never wear it for fear of breaking it however!

  7. the dress seems very inspired by a Phillip Lim design from a few years ago.
