Another rare entry into the Beauty School Dropout category. And no, it isn't because I've discovered that moisturising cream x is better moisturising than cream y. Sadly, as yet, I still have nothing useful to contribute towards the subject of beauty products. However, I've managed to get myself involved in the microsite created for Yves Saint Laurent's new perfume Parisienne, fronted by Kate Moss. They set me the brief of creating a collage proffering up nuggets of text that describe my own warped perceptions of what is to be Parisienne. I'm about as Parisienne as a packet of salt and vinegar McCoys (they're REALLY vinegary…) so I'd take the collage with a pinch of salt.
That said, I do recall entering The Fashion Spot by posting in the thread about shopping in Paris so I'm not completely Paris-illiterate. For a more rounded view though I'd take a look at the other collages that an international array of bloggers contributed; Paris-based Mzelle-Fraise, Julie of Berlin-based Les Mads and Betsy of WashingtonDC-based Fashion is Spinach (blogger international relations are pretty healthy seeing as I've met both Julie and Betsy).
And yes, it's only en Francais so here are the translations…
"The first thing I do when I get to Paris is have a proper cup of coffee sitting in a cafe people watching for no apparent reason."
"I took this picture in Autumn, on the steps of Palais de Tokyo, my favourite season for visiting the city."
"This sums up me in Paris. Looking lost half the time."
"I love this Breton striped t-shirt which I found in Free P Star for 1 Euro! It was an emergency buy because I ran out of clothes! It's a bit of a cliche to wear a striped shirt in Paris but then I see so many people wearing a similar thing but in their own style that I think it is something of a Parisian staple. "
"Vanves is my favourite flea market in Paris. Less crowded than Clignancourt. Vintage in Paris is far more selective and I think people wear vintage in a more discreet way as opposed to an overtly retro style."
"I know it's very tourist-y but I love eating under the Printemps dome… it's quite mesmerizing to look at. There's a serene way of shopping in Paris that is best seen in places like Bon Marche. Nobody seems to ever be rushing around!"
"I'm not a natural cyclist so I normally opt for Metro for travelling around. Though really the best way to get round is walking!"
"La Cigalle is an amazing venue to see live music - grand and grubby at the same time."
"The longest duration I'm in Paris is during Paris Fashion Week where outfits on a daily basis becomes a logistical nightmare sometimes."
"I do tend to simplify my style a bit when I'm in Paris just because the city demands it but the ideas of Parisian chic I think are shifting…"
Oh and I'm trying to figure out what variety of hybrid tea-roses that Kate Moss is caressing here…
Cool collage.
This makes me miss Paris.

Bookmarking this for when I (someday) make it to Paris! Thanks for the links!
Hey!
I’ve just finished reading your article in Elle UK, and I just want to say you are a great blogger and role model. The girls who say nasty comments are just jealous, and I happen to think you know a darn lot about fashion!
Thanks for inspiring me!!

Dare you to ask them.
forgot to say that for some Parisian , Paris without you is not funny .. Come back !!
Interesting remark about feeling you should simplify your outfits in Paris. I felt the need to tone down my look too as my bold coloured dresses stood out really awkwardly against the masses of black/beige/blue dressed Parisians. They tend to make me feel a bit scruffy and I suddenly feel the need to dress more elegantly (at which I fail miserably). Funny, it only happens to me in Paris.
you have such a large (and impressive) knowledge of Paris it’s almost like you live there. How many times have you been lucky enough to go?xx
Auhhhhh I miss salt and vinegar McCoy’s something fierce. But I hate flipping HATE their stupid ‘manly’ advertising campaign.. I just can’t eat them any more.
:[.
Interesting note on Paris vintage, too.
😉 : Miss ya too! Will be there soon!
Kim: Yeah I mean, fashion week is one thing but during day to day normality… I do feel somewhat stifled style-wise…not necessarily a bad thing…
Jointjumble: Hmmm… in a lifetime? Gosh…I really have kind of lost count…
I went a lot with my family as a child and then a lot when I was a student and now quite a bit for work… errr… more than 30 times I’d say…
So really, I SHOULD know the place more than I do…
Claire: DITTO! WTF? MANLY crisps?!?
great collage and i love ur blog very much… ^_^

The whole thing’s so toxic. Sexism RUINS EVERYTHING! Even delicious things!
I was on the train a couple of weeks ago though, and there were a bunch of guys in METAAAL band t-shirts doing a quiz of some sort – much like in the pub-ad! – and I got such an FU-McCoy’s out of the fact that they were debating flower names and what a camisole was with this serious intentness. Getting questions right > being ‘manly’!
Claire, don’t deny yourself the crunchy taste of those amazing crisps and just go ahead and munch away!
I caaaaan’t
the adverts have tainted them; they taste like PENIS NOW.
