Pedal to the Metal

When I first saw the Acne S/S 10 collection images with of course the show stopping metal-work pants catching everyone's eye, I was racking my brains thinking what it reminded me of other than the obvious…i.e. Balenciaga's robo leggings.  No, I racked again and I remembered Husam el Odeh's embellished pair of Kickers boots.  So tonight, at the Acne S/S 10 presentation at the Barbican, my suspicions were confirmed…. all the metalwork, sunglasses and bag embellishment is indeed the work of Husam el Odeh!  I do like it best when he collaborates and when the perfect backdrop paves way for his HEAVY metal to shine.

Getting spiritualised is the theme of the collection and Acne's first collaboration with Swarovski meant the crystals were used in a sparse way… singular crystals placed on acupuncture points…

I love this crystal/broken glass print…

What I didn't catch properly in the lookbook images were these shoes which have a spindly triple heel… hmmm… showpiece shoes that won't ever see the shops?

  1. Nice to see the Swarovski crystals applied sparsely. I shudder everytime I catch my mom wear some jeans she bought in HK with a Swarovski cat embellishment. No lie. It’s scary…but sort of endearing because it’s my mom haha.
Also those heels are like matchsticks!

  2. wow so many cool quirky aspects of the clothes you wouldn’t see on the unway! i love the cystals on accupuncture points, literal heavy metal, and the surrealist chair heels! so creative

  3. heels are so random, I’m failing to see their beauty. The jeans are interesting, as are the metal episodes

  4. Omg, this is great in a crazy way! It definitely inspired me. How weird is the idea of triple-heeled shoes? I like it!
    xx

  5. I honestly cannot decide is I like those shoes… or if I hate them! Art-wise they are fascinating, but they also jar with my no doubt conventional view of what a “heel” should be!

  6. Ahh! Those shoes are delicious but do seem kind of impratical in life unfortunately. Knowing my luck I’d trip and one of them would snap. Probably something will just dominate the runways.
Hey thanks for the link btw!

  7. The body armor is inspired by motorcycle racing suits I assume. Love the tri-heal, very original.
