Doolittle Wrist Action

As a complete coincidence, I re-watched My Fair Lady last week in a particular moment of Tudou.com internet boredom and yes, it's a bit of an obvious one, loving Eliza Doolittle's getup in that superbly orchestrated races scene, courtesy of Cecil Beaton.  I wouldn't have brought it up had I not seen these Mika Monochrome gloves by Gloved Up which are the perfect replacement for the original white lacey ones because the graphic black and white lines mirror that particular outfit so well.

Shifting away from the obvious cinematic reference, I love the way the gloves have been used here in….Economic Intelligent Life magazine (?!? who knew ?!?)

For the gloved-up hands to be decorated to the maximum, I've discovered Yoshiko Creations has a blog with pictures I can save as opposed to flash animations… and their porcelain-like rings and bracelets would contribute nicely to the black and white hand affair.

  1. oh I’m such a fan of My Fair Lady (and also Sounds of Music – two classics). The rain in Spain…(can’t remember the rest). Love the photos and the gloves.

  2. Those gloves make me so drooly. I just wish the shop section of her site were a bit more comprehensive (ie. how much do I have to save up?)

  3. I commend you for viewing MFL it isn’t the best of films but has a certain charm I grant you! Old Cecil does a mean costume indeed.

  4. Those rings are gorgeous! But I’d be too worried about breaking them to wear them.
BTW, “The rain in Spain.. falls mainly on the plain.”
Not sure if that’s true though.
