I've been feeling like the fat cells have been making a celebratory formation in my arse in the past two days seeing as I've done nothing but sat on it watching crap that involves vets, dance anthems and infomercials. Therefore today I had to literally drag my feet out to a) practise using crutches (failed miserably because I have no arm strength…) and b) see the world again. What I saw wasn't pretty to say the least. In fact, it was quite a sad sight. Doors by Jas M.B., retail spot of Jas's soft leather bags in comfortingly big sizes and also where one can find Peter Pilotto, Ann Sofie Back and a few mint labels for menswear like Petar Petrov and GOHjas… it's closing down and will shut its doors on the 18th March. Today, it was rammed with bargain hunters nabbing bags at crazy prices of ¬£40 (down from like ¬£200-¬£300…) and sadly I too was one of them. Yup, whilst it's sad to see the store go, the one time when I can afford to shop there is during its closing down sale or its sample sale…it's just not enough to support retail ventures in lame-ass positive spirit is it?
It will probably make Jas wince to see his stuff being sold off at such low prices but I am glad I got this ribbed oversized clutch at ¬£50 and some Peter Pilotto cosmic print trews at ¬£90. Would I rather the store stayed open though for future aimless browsing sessions? I'll be generous in spirit and say "YES, of course!". It's really hard not to be negative and I'll ask this tentatively but…. "I wonder who's next…?"
OH NO! My favorite bag is from there. I hope it’s just the store that’s going not the brand????
Wow, I met the very friendly Jas at the D&A tradeshow last month and he sweet enough to give us free wallets…this is too bad, but you did get some nice finds out of it, especially those pants. Really hate to hear about all these stores closing…
xxx,
Tiffany
Sometimes it is hard to reconcile ones ethics about these things with the driving need for a bargain.
I love the tailored pin stripe look of your bag there. Like it could carry your wallet AND do your taxes. 🙂
It is sad. With the multiples making redundancies to save themselves some money, it’s no wonder these ‘one man band’ type of shops are struggling…
The trousers are positively celestial. Good luck with future crutch endeavours!
/Cillian.
I am incredibly jealous of your pants. The closest I get to such a delightful print is the background of my blog. Darn it.
The Pilotto trousers look a similar print to Braganza s/s 09 — I can’t say i’m surprised it’s closing…the Tokyo line Goh is so cerebral, the people at Back don’t even know where they sell their line (‘talk to our sales agents’) & Petrov is just ridiculously priced, average quality menswear basics. I was disappointed to see twosee close, but then I guess investing in new premises on the eve of a financial meltdown, probably isn’t the smartest thing Anthony Stephinson has ever done.
Cosmic pants!!!!!
love love love
Really loving the pants, and the clutch! I love your total sense of style, actually; you are one fun fashion femme.
LOVE the clutch! Shame about the store though…hope not many follow suit.
Hope you are faring well in your crutches. It’s amazing how much arm/shoulder/back strength you develop with them!
xx
The clutch is amazing. Perfect size and the color/texture mix is very pretty. Hope you heel fast!
The clutch is great!
In this moment of time, it’s hard to survive in such crowded business like fashion, huh.
that clutch is awesome!! good steal… !

Oh nooo!! I have a Jas M.B. backpack that I really really love (people always comment on it if they see it) and I wanted to visit their store, but never had the chance to and now it’s too late 🙁 🙁 darn it!
so it’s happening all over the place.. closing down and some bargains. Did you hurt yourself or something? I guess I woudln’t ask that if I didn’t miss 30 or so posts. GR. Hope it’s not too serious.
that is a really good picture! the lighting is very perfect and was it shot w/ dslr, perhaps?
i love pants and the clutch. i’m really into that kind of dark grey lately.
Love that clutch but I have to admit you had me afraid from the title of this post and thinking Another Mag had bit the dust. PHEW!, although it sounds like this store will be sadly missed.
They are both very cute, especially the trousers! Sounds like it’s real a shame the store is closing. Sounds like we must spend more, injections into the fashion economy 😉
We do need to spend, just not go into debt getting things we want.
It is very important to stay positive in these times, and not get caught up in sadness and fear. People have to work together, we all play a part in the economy, and in the world. Our attitude is a big factor, and it will influence the direction we go.
I am of course appreciative of sales right now, but am sympathetic to the small business owners who are suffering.
I know things will get better, they always do.
I wish everyone peace and abundance.
The clutch is wonderful, enjoy the hell out of it! 🙂
wow i am in love with both your purchases. it is def. sad when a store closes, but you got a good deal so good for you!
I like the mix of color and slick pants, the bag is fantastic and looks great, approval with note from Barcelona
They need to sell the stuff though, and I am sure that they’re glad to see it going to somebody who will style it so creatively! 😉
I do sort of want to bite your hand off in that photo, cos that is a GORGEOUS clutch
Hi,
The brand is not closing down and is available in Browns Focus and soon to sell through ASOS.com alongside more global outlets such as Barneys NY and Lift in Japan.
Rather than being a victim of the credit crisis, the lease was up on the store after five years and it was a joint decision to close and find a new location for the brand to showcase the Jas M.B. collections.
Thanks for all of your support and keep checking the website for details on the next phase.
Store will close end of this week, so plenty of finds left…Susie didn’t manage to nab everything ; )
Great clutch and certainly cosmic trws indeed! Like the swollen foot motif too – still feeling sorry for you.
I will carry on blogging but sporadically on http://fashionandfilm.blogspot.com as have to make a short film, raise funds etc blah stuff so new bloggy name will be filmupstart as is my twitter.
Shame about the shop but new retail ventures will come along, there’s always opportunity…
Fab pants, darling!
xoxox,
CC
Hi Susie, I hate to be the bearer of bad news but Tofu in Covent Garden is also closing down…most pieces marked down to 10 or 20 pounds.
How sad! I’m sure they’ll still sell elsewhere.
Trisch xo
Great bargain and I love the pants too.
Those trousers are absolutely fantastic, and I really love your new clutch. It’s sad to see how many amazing shops and boutiques are closing in the current climate, but then again I suppose it will only be temporary, and in a few years, we’ll see a whole new set of openings…something to look forward to 🙂
i love the pants and clutch dear!
And I enjoyed reading your blog sooo much! =)
Your look is always so refreshing and inspiring.
xoxo
I like your blog entry! I feel the same way. I hope this recession will end soon because its starting to hurt a lot of great companies…
However, your bag is gorgeous!
That’s too bad, but what can we do?
The clutch is amazing. Glad to see you managed to get out of the house, with your injury and all. Get well soon!
I feel funny about leaving you a comment about heels when you obviously wont be wearing any for sometime, sorry to see about your accident.
butS, I dont wear brogue wholly that often so theyre not very scratched, Im surprised, being a Forever 21 shoe. Cause I have other shoes that are tore up.
Ugh, damn this economy! This is sad news.
love that clutch… and those pants… are freaking hot
It’s sad that the store is closing, but I can’t argue with a deal like that!
Clutches sounds terrible – recover soon! 🙂 But that clutch is definitely cute! And big enough for a book – my kind of bag.
i swooned at the trousers, very topshop unique fw? i know people said it veered to much towards nu rave but give me the cosmos any day!
i do not love this style,
