The purpose of Felipe Oliveira Baptista's presence at couture fashion week isn't really to shock or be sumptuous or decadent – all the things that people love/hate about haute couture. Baptista proposes a different side to couture – clothes that are beautifully crafted and entirely stands up with its own vision that doesn't need to veer into costume territories to fulfill that vision. People can gasp and ooh/ahh over Dior but I was more distracted over the details going on at Baptista. The oil spill patterns on the dresses and leggings and more interestingly, from a distance what looks to be shoulder fabric panels turn out to be a smattering of feathers up close. A beautiful bit of thrifty economising on materials there, seeing as a dress covered with feathers might not nearly look as lovely as small spray of them on the shoulder or on the hips…
Felipe’s Feathers
love how it’s a collar, an epaulette.
Lovely stuff, especially the last outfit!
i have some peacock feathers i can use…….
The use of feathers in these garments is so subtle. How did the designers walk in those caps!? could they see!?
I’ve done a post about Grey Jersey and have linked to one of your posts as you also have an obsession for it!

It’s nice how the models could walk right off the runway and hop on their motorcycles without even changing their hats!
Futuristic & artfully sleek. There’s something almost android-esque about the printed mono-sleeve, I like it!
Brilliant. I love the look of feathers, but they’re often deployed with too much fluff. These sleek looks are subtle and alluring. Love ’em.
prosecute the KID-KILLERS
i loved o/
Oh yes to those leggings… I wish!
love the wings on the shoulder!!! so poetic!
Haha, I think Baptista has drawn inspiration from Angemon from Digimon:

Manka…nice spot! Hehe…the resemblance is uncanny!
I’m actually more interested in those hats! Like alien militant or something….I don’t wear hats but I actually wear one of those!

OH MY GOD.
I NEED THAT HAT RIGHT THIS SECOND.
WOW IS ALL I CAN SAY.
OH and of course I am innnnn love with the feather details. Can’t say enough good things. Thank you so much for posting this!
I love this! I think you’re right – a dress full of feathers wouldn’t have impacted me in quite the same way.
The feathers are amazing. I especially love the dress in the second picture. Want!
They are seriously gorgeous clothes! I love the little details-especially he feathers!
The feather details are beautiful, much more subtle than mcqueen’s work last summer (even though I actually loved the OTT of his dresses). The blue puff feather sleeve here is gorgeous..

these are so nicely done, i like how the feather details are so subtle, the last blue legging should be mine
AMAZING
very futuristic…i love it…is my idea or it reminds a little bit of givenchy and balenciaga two or three years ago with their robot-woman collections…but that not reduces how great this collection is…
Wow, great use of feathers! x
It’s about time someone challenged the romanticism and femininity of the couture collections. It’s great to have him around, really.
So, shows like Valentino’s SS09 will be overshadowed by a show more exciting and interesting like this one. No need to worry about how much potentially boring it is bound to be and will be in the coming seasons…
I love the second look, the black dress. I wonder if I could DIY this…
Really digging how it’s only on one shoulder! Random side note: I told my mom yesterday if she could make me earrings that look like feathers are spewing out my pierced hole on my ear lobe.
The feathers are divine!!!
😀
Love the feather armour!
