Departmentising…

Pop-ups, designer collaborations, hosting other designers, events, London Fashion Week screens… all of this stuff is all part and parcel of the Topshop Oxford Circus experience.  I emphasise Oxford Circus because really it has become and entity that goes above and beyond what Topshop, the high street label, does.  I only wonder whether the same experience will be translated to New York like they say they're going to do…

For February comes "EDIT", a new concession that will be nestled in the basement 'bazaar' floor of the Oxford Circus branch – a pop-up boutique showcasing a set of young designers.  Not content with just working with  British-based designers, they've gone international and cherry picked a set of interesting designers to sell a pick of their S/S 09 collections.  No, not collaborations, but pieces from their mainline collections.  Not that it's price prohibitive seeing as the prices are somewhere along the lines of some of Topshop own collabs.  Me thinks it's a move that is in keeping with what Urban Outfitters UK do, selling Luella, Anglomania, Vanessa Bruno etc…departmentising… trying to provide a curated selection outside of the Topshop brand so you stay longer in the store…

Still, the EDIT is quite a select one… names that are probably familiar to us hardcore fashion blog consumers but probably not to the wider public.  EDIT will drop in two phases, with the first phase starting from February 15th to March 15th…

Nakkna (Sweden)…

Editnakkna

Wear it for the Boy (Denmark)…ho ho ho at the hand print and yay for braided knee caps…

Editwearit

Diana Orving (Sweden)… Her prints are magnificent…

Editdianaor

Without meaning to be patriotic or anything my favourite collection goes to KTZ (UK) for fulfilling all my plastic gem fantasies and sticking them on what looks to be structured satin black… the dress or body will be mine… oh yes, oh yes…

Editktz

Other names include Elton and Jacobsen (Norway), Marios (Italy) Resterods (Sweden).

The second phase is happening between March 15th and April 15th…

…and unfortunately the UK bias continues as I've been a fan of White Trumpet for a while and these geometric structured and print dresses (with boob fringing!) are right up my street…

Editwhitetrump

Grey Ant (USA)… I'm into the long double breasted jacket shape despite it reminding me of a few 90s' TVB Cantonese dramas where the workaholic 'powerful' female character would constantly wear these kind of jackets…

Greyant

Nude and denim at Camilla Norrback (Sweden)

Phase 2 also includes Starstyling (Berlin), Seneca Rising (USA) and Warmi (Columbia).

  1. I just read your post with the Reem pieces. I am in love. I’ve been toying with the idea of putting lace on a t-shirt myself. I’ll have to look at more Reem for inspiration.

  2. Wow. This is exciting news! That White Trumpet dress in the black and orange is gorgeous and that print on that Grey ant bustier dress is so so pretty.
Right, I must make my regular trips down to London include Oxford Circus too. My poor bank account.

  3. Wow, how awesomely awesome those pieces by KTZ are!
I also feel a slight partiality toward the UK brood of designers but in my opinion itβ€šΓ„Γ΄s entirely justified when looking at the pics.
Even though I am Swedish myself I simply cannot muster any bias affection for what I think is a bit of a snoresome collection by Camilla Norrback, the cut of the nude dress is quite lovely but the denim thingy looks like something my granny would don to gut fish.
I hope you had a fab time in Paris πŸ™‚

  4. All fantastic stuff, but I especially love the KTZ leggings and Wear it For the Boy tunic.

  5. OT, I saw some trashy girl group wearing your Bordelle corset in FHM and I couldn’t help but think of you and horrible it looks in FHM versus your styling.
I can’t say I like the kneepad look of those leggings, a little too Monica Lewinsky

  6. the US topshop store opens march 26. i will be sooooo angry if we don’t get a slice of some of this!!

  7. The KTZ dress reminds me of the faces that are often printed on Cassette Playa tees. Am I the only one?

  8. I’ll say that they are smart to do that. I would like to see something like that right here in perth but there really isn’t a market for it.

  9. Oooh exciting! I’ll be coming to London again for the Topshop Unique show so I’ll be checking this out for sure. The White Trumpet stuff is incredible.

  10. Good ol’ Topshop! Love the white trumpet dress. the Warmi stuff looks cute too. Any news on whether they will do similar thing for men?

  11. oh this does sound good… anything would be an improvement on the rubbish that fills up the basement. will be great to see some swedish designs, i’ve been eyeing some nakkna and diane orving stuff for a while now!
and love the white trumpet stuff, hadn’t seen that before.

  12. I’m in love with Wear it For the Boy- and not just because it references Footloose haha. Those grey braided leggings are calling to me…I am in love with your blog by the way, I would be totally honored if you would check mine out, although I know you’re busy jetsetting for all the shows πŸ™‚ If you wanted to though, I would love to trade links!

  13. This is really exciting news, although the international designers seem very Scandinavian slanted. Love all those brands anyway, and am particularly happy to hear that Camilla Norrback will be included since we just signed her on (after I suggested her) to my showroom!

  14. I love how Grey Ant has maintained its cool during the premium denim fall out. La Rousse in Seattle has a bunch on sale for 50%-70% off including a great dress that can be worn over jeans or as a sun dress. Really cute. Check Shoplarousse.com out!

  15. KTZ and white trumpet are the best (not being partial at all, haha)the wear it for a boy leggings is fantastic as well.

  16. Susie,
This is totally irrelevant, but I recall you saying that you saw leather-look scrunchies in Superdrug. Was this a recent thing? I know, I know, very 80s, but I just need leather everywhere about my person
    Cheers!

(I keep seeing you out and about in London and thinking “Oh, it’s Susie Bubble” and sort of smiling and nodding as though I know you, and then I realise that you can’t actually, you know, see who reads your blog, and I feel pretty ashamed.)

  17. wow! love ktz their myspace is amazing and white trumpet cant wait!!
