Last day in Paris and in this half work-half play trip, I've switched off from somethings but taken in others. Menswear has rushed by in a grey blur and a half that ended on a leather triangular note at Gareth Pugh's last night and now couture has begun. The Alexis Mabille show in the morning was my morning treat before having to rush back to my hotel to get back on the emails and laptop. In the sumptuous Hotel Pozzo di Borgo, a rather sleek affair played out that was less bedecked with Mabille's trademark bows and more about close cuts and decadent evenings out. Oh dear I'm beginning to assume a Tim Blanks reviewing voice. So I'll stop because seeing as I'm not staying to do the whole couture shebang, I really shouldn't be getting ahead of myself…
All I'll say is that I was rather more delighted with the flower shower poof coat and the pairing of loose lace trews with a heavy peacoat… the former of which I'm itching to DIY giving me an opportunity to go on a hunt for fake flowers, the kind that retirement homes are oddly fond of and the latter of which I was already wearing today (loose sheer lace trews over silver leggings today…)
Then came Mabille's finale tiered wedding which promptly made me shed a tear in my eye over NYE's wedding dress disaster. I can't bear to look at this photo which I took on NYE before it got botched up in my scissors attack (you would want to have the ground swallow you up and burn you in the centre of the earth if you knew the origins of the dress…) and is now currently sitting on top of my wardrobe looking sad, dishevelled and crumpled. I haven't a clue what I will do with it but I'm still determined to make something of it… I'm not gonna have this picture crop up in some jumbled up nightmare involving giant menancing Cheerios and a metal spoon aftertaste in my mouth (the foulest sensation there is…).
I told you that you’d fit into it! (and look fab, no less), I’m sure it’s not beyond salvaging.
I sort of really love those transparents trousers. BIG time.
ah, i’m sure you’ll find another event to wear this to… it’s lovley.
Dress is really pretty. Don’t worry though we all have our fair share of scissor disasters. We learn by our mistakes!
Best place for fakey flowers is the good old cheapo Wilkinsons. They have millions for a quid.

Ooooh, your dress is lovely (and I hope you’ll find a way to resurrect it some day, so you won’t feel so sad about it)
The flower coat is totally amazing! it could brighten up any day of the week! Its so refreshing to see a colourful garment that puts a smile on your face, maybe because it’s humourous or maybe because yes it does remind me of the faux flowers my nana has in a vase secured by a doily!

no need to shop for a wedding dress for your own wedding when you’ve got one handy at the top of your wardrobe!
Oooh, I’d love to see a DIYed flower coat. It would be equal parts crazy and absolutely effin fantastic! Do go for it 🙂
p.s. can you rip up the dress further to make a lace-y collar, maybe with some ruched stitching? I reckon it’d be fab!
Have a great day 🙂
oh wow! i love that black veil and wedding dress combo! screams dark romance! yummy!
You lucky lucky so-and-so! You look fab Sus.
I’d love your opinion on my fashion156.com design entry this year Susie, if you get a spare moment in your hectic schedule it would mean a lot…it’s on my blog.
exept the flowery coat wich i love i can’t say that i liked the other garments…but your dress oh! is so delicius…i don’t know why but it brings to my mind the song A&E(goldfrap)…its a little bit “ghosty” with a touch of romance…i hope that you can bring it back from the dead..
the lace skirt is beautiful
Wow, I’m feeling all floaty after seeing the wedding dress. I can’t wait to see what you do with yours! x
I wanna see what you did to that dress!
Oh god, it must be your mothers wedding dress, isn’t it!?!?! My mom recently offered up my grandmas dress for me to rework to make my own, and I said NO WAY! I can’t handle the pressure!
e-mail me if you need some help on it, maybe I could give technical advise 😉
That flower coat is to die for. I love that he used fake flowers that are super fake and fluffy looking!
xxx,
Tiffany
That shower-poof coat really made me laugh, it really does look like those are what it is made from! Fantastic.
Also, dress is lovely but I’m sure you will find a way to ressurect it. I’m curious to see what happened to it now!
So long as it’s not your mom’s dress, no harm no foul, right?
Please tell me you didn’t chop your mom’s wedding dress…that would be bad…
You look divine, S!
And I loooove that flower coat!

You definitely have to do something with your dress – really cool fabric 🙂
I am in love with those trousers, they look so elegant despite how see-through they are.
Beauutttiful
We need to see the wedding dress! We can’t handle the Not Knowing. If it’s truly tragic, we can sob on your behalf but I know you can make it a success.
(plus, you can protect the photo from being copied)
i just discovered your blog… all my compliments!
xx kimandra
oh i forgot to leave the adress of our blog if you want to have a look…

I’m kind of going crazy with all that PreFall, Haute Couture and Menswear going on at the same time! Thanks for the frontrow pics, Susie!
Wow…that flower coat is unreal. It took my breath away Ms Bubble! you’re so lucky to have witnessed it in real life.
About that dress..why don’t you combine the makeover with your flower DIY? perhaps get white/metallic flowers and stitch them on + use of scissors to play with the dress’s hem?
xx-LJ from SOS!
i beleive i saw you in st. pancras station today, wearing that lovely cowprint skirt 🙂 just got off the eurostar i presume? you looked so effortlessly cool and always do.
Now I’m even more determined to do something to it…and no, I refused to show it in its ruined state…. because I literally want to cry…. but once I’ve done something with it, then I can make peace with it…
Angie/Cynthia: No…it’s WORSE than my mother’s dress…. I REALLY can’t say whose it is as I’m SO fucking embarrassed…really, it makes me want to die…
SOS!: Hmmm…. definitely one to think about!
Chive: I looked like shite but thank you for saying so…was so frazzled…!
Please tell me it’s not your boyfriend’s mother’s dress? that’s the only thing i can think of that’s worse.
Well thank god it’s not your moms, but now my mind is reeling guessing what could be worse… here are my top 3 guesses of who the dress belongs/belonged to:
1 – Steves mom
2 – Daphne Guiness (only because of the mortification level)
3 – your boss
Don’t feel as though I’m pressuring you to spill the beans, just trying to make you laugh about it a bit, if that’s even remotely possible! And if one of my guesses is actually right…so sorry for probably making you cry more!
I’m sure that however awful the wedding dress was, I’ve done something worse. Seriously. My mom has threatened, in all seriousness, to take every single pair of scissors in the house and hide them in her room. I hope that makes you feel better. 🙂 I love that sheer trews/jacket combo!
Hahaha! AngieMontreal made me laugh, re the mortification.
Karl himself made it for you, right?
My favourite show from the couture shows because I’m so biased to Mabille cos he shows menswear looks for his couture presentations! haha
Go Alexis!!!! hahaha
