Is it just me or did Christmas just creep up suddenly? It hasn’t come as ‘early’ as previous years maybe because the world has got bigger concerns than Crimbo. Now, the mind is starting to wonder to New Years Eve (always the bigger deal, the bigger event for me…). I fret every year about what the dealio is going to be and then invariably end up having a poo time. This time the matter has really already been decided give the fact that Ponystep (the successor to Boombox) will be holding the last ever party in London on New Years Eve before it makes its way over to Paris in 2009 (I may have to make more Eurostar trips than before…).
The white diamond invite has got me excited but the theme is an even better one – White Wedding. The Hoxton Bar and Grill is going to be transformed by set designer Rachel Thomas to fit with the theme and basically I’m expecting a lot of confetti and sugared almonds flung all over the place. I started my eBay search for the obvious vintage wedding dresses which started off fairly tasteful in 30s/40s lace gowns and 20s drop waisted affairs. It then progressed into an ugly frock fest which actually would probably give me more of a giggle to wear on NYE than a more sensible option. Especially when you get eBay pictures with erased faces of people who clearly don’t want people knowing they wore such a poofy-shouldered, lacey affair on their wedding day. I want tack, tack and a bit more tack. We shall see how I fare in London’s vintage grottos seeing as there’s no time to do the eBay thing…
(Ponystep New Years Eve tickets are available at the Hoxton Square Bar & Kitchen, George & Dragon and bStore at ¬£25…)

I would never think of that theme for a NYE party. I can’t wait to see pictures. Good luck finding a dress.
Will you also be donning satin gloves and shoes with pearls on them?
Eep! What an awesome theme. Oh my lord that is so freaking fun!
That art deco dress (second from top) is to die for.
oooo if you’re looking for some bling, I’m doing a give away and I think it’ll totally suit any vintage dress!

The question is though, will us non-invited plebs actually be able to get in (before like 4am!) even if we’ve shelled out ¬£25 for a ticket?!
heheheh the last picture…the poor pet….
sounds like it’s going to be amazing!! have a fantastic time miss bubble 🙂
xx- LJ from SOS!
I would actually quite like the 1st dress if about two feet of it was lopped off.
The horror…
you seem to have a very glam lifestyle! How do you travel so much?!
and the invitation is very pretty! I like the style ALOT. simple and has a DIY look to it, also very classy.
pretty inventive theme! can’t wait to see what you end up wearing.
I vote you go for the biggest leg-o-mutton sleeves you can find.
It always blows my mind to think how the ubiquitous bodice-with-a-fluffy-skirt wedding dresses of today seem totally classic, but really they’re probably destined to look just as dated (and eventually vintage) as any swishy 30’s dress or stiff 80’s number.
What a fantastic party theme! Although I can hear the groan from the guys a mile away. Oh well. I agree – there is a lot of pressure to come away with a great New Year’s story. And I almost always end up asleep before midnight. Oops.
I went to a Day of the Dead fetival last month, and the best costume I saw was a girl in a billowing tattered lace wedding dress with fake blood splattered on it.
Just a (Goth) thought!
I wore my mum’s old wedding dress to a “worst dressed” theme party.
I gave up on new year’s eve parties though. Every year my friends and I made a big deal of it, and the night itself always blowed. One year I got sick and was forced to stay at home, and discovered I actually had a better time there, just watching fireworks.
New year’s eve just aint for me. But I do hope you have fun!
OH! So many happy memories!
Amazing selection x
Oh lord, am I the only person freaked out by that last photo? You should totally go for a Madonna like-a-virgin-esque frou frou mini affair.
What a great theme!
I’d go for a big 80s poofy number, you can do slinky and glamorous any time!
That last photo scares the hell out of me, that’s just not an erased face. It’s like you can see right through her. Scary.
oh no, don’t go for the 80s big shoulder pad dress!!! yuck!!!
sorry….that’s me above!!
I went to a haloween do as the bride of Frankenstein one year and got a poofy horror that I lopped of at the bottom and turned it a mini wedding bubble dress, the puff sleeves were huge! If you were my size Susie I would lend it to you!
I like your style! Where do you get your stuff? I really like the internet for inspiration, for example http://www.7trends.com
They always have the best looks and nice clothes.

I would love to wear my mum’s wedding dress – a 3/4 length sleeve fitted brocade silk short dress (my parents married in the early, early 70s, she complete with thick black rimmed spectacles). I would wear it daily, actually, but alack! my chest and shoulders are way too big for it to be successfully zipped up. Damn good nutrition and climbing things!
Have much much fun this NYE.
I am so sad that I will be in Wales this New years! Ponystep has been my favourite monthly party and I will be terribly sad to see it go. But like you say perhaps frequent visits to Paris will be in order!
Love the “Goth thought” above!
Susie, thought you might get a kick out of this feathered, Queen Elizabeth-collared, asymmetrical design by a J-rock outfit designer (scroll to last picture):

thanks for sharing some sweetness
As a bride-to-be on a tight budget, I recently discovered an online bridal jewelry store called GlamForLess.com.
Though their website is plain and simple, I found some great deals on jewelry sets for me and my bridesmaids.
I think other readers on a tight budget may also find GlamForLess.com to be helpful.
You may want to check them out at http://www.glamforless.com/ and inform other readers about it.
Keep up the good work.
Best regards,
Lisa Bloom
Ok…i live in santa rosa and i love the vintage style.
I want to get some vintage dresses (real or just look like) but i cant find a really good place to buy them…
Beautiful post. How can we say that feminism has done its work until each of us can walk on the street alone without fear, annoyance, or embarassment?
someday I touch my dress one of these designs, I miss that day arrives.
There are some very great sources here and thank you for being so kind to post them here. So we can read them and give our opinion on subject.
