So I’m thinking some sort of a Googlemap tracking all the different designers from all over the world is in order for 2009 and I might even be determined enough to see if I can cite a designer from every single country in the world. Today, I’m ticking off Latvia off the list thanks to a DD contributor who shed some light on Maureurol’s, a duo who graduated from the Design and Art School of Riga that also have their own denim label MRJeans. It’s their lookbook images shot by Kaspars Lielgalvis that have caught my eye due to their love of oversized headpieces that are like found object sculptures. Their latest collection presented at the end of October "Private Detective" was inspired by film noir, and revolves around the archetypes from the noir classics. The trench of course makes an appearance as does a wonderful femme fatale pleated dress. Coupled with the wigs that remind me of an oversized versions of the YSL AW08-9 black bobs, I love how striking the looks become. This collection was also developed into a short movie with Latvian film director Kristƒ´ne Kursi≈°a which I can’t seem to find on their admittedly confusing MySpace…
Not being into denim, it come as a surprise that I’m intrigued by their denim label MRJeans which also has equally wonderful imagery…
