Ruffled Metallic

elleryss09.jpg

It’s not strictly an oxymoron but it does look sound very odd when I say ‘ruffled metallics’ in my head.  Metal = hard, ruffle =  soft, ergo the two sound odd together.  In reality though, I’m calling for more ruffled metallics outside of the 80s’ prom dress variety (though 162 Holloway Road is throwing up some very good options in that prom dress ilk…).  My eyebrow did raise a little when I saw the shoes in the 3.1 Phillip Lim S/S 09 show but then the eyes glanced over Christian Louboutin and that explains why they are so… so… MUCH.  They take the Prada AW08-9 ruffle shoes just a leeetle bit beyond to just the right amount of ruffles for me.  They then made me think of this Ellery SS09 dress which has been ingrained in my head when a friend emailed me about the label Ellery.  Kym Ellery who only launched her label a few seasons ago was (is?) a stylist for Russh magazine and I don’t knwo much more other than she has made the perfect metallic dress that is pinched and adorned in all the right ways…  sorry that was selfish of me for not labouring over a languid designer profile… it’s all down to the effect of the dress and the thought of the dress with those shoes… it sounds oxymoronic but I will keep saying it…ruffled metallic…ruffled metallic…

  1. I am in love with the shoes…. they are just too much!! Although I liked the non-metallic ones better. I need them.

  2. Metallics are so much better on shoes than on bags… and those particular shoes are deliciously over-the-top.

  3. I like the shoes, am not so crazy about the dress, but you could make it look awesome, I’m sure!

  4. The moment I saw those shoes, I fell in love!! Anyway, would you prefer the metallic ones, nude or dusty pink? You can go to Rock.e.trend’s blog to check the other colors if you haven’t already seen them. I never would have guessed that Phillip Lim created a design with Louboutin…anyway just get back to me when you get the chance! Thanks =]

  5. The ruffles on the shoes are a bit outlandish…
but somehow I am still oddly attracted to them…
    a lot.

  6. So much fun!
Can you believe that in Atlanta people think you’re being over-the-top if you’re wearing metallic leggings?!?!
    That Ellery dress is fab.

  7. I’ve so been resisting the metallic trend; for a while I felt like magazines kept insisting that it was popular when it really wasn’t (“Really! Metallics are in! We SWEAR TO GOD!”) but I’m really digging this ruffled thing. Where the metallics from last year seemed just this side of armor, these seem fun, like Christmas decorations. I also like the way that model’s got her hair all hippie and soft to contrast with the space-age sort of dress.
… wow, long comment. Anyhow, in conclusion, I LIKE RUFFLED METALLIC. Also, nice blog!

  8. Hey Susie, looks like I’ve missed so much since I last stopped by!
I thought at first ruffled metallic was an oxymoron too, but when you look at it visually it has a different effect. Great idea.

  10. The shoes are fabulous and at least they will stay on your feet unlike the Pradas. I love how you look closely on the runways and they all have elastic bands securing them to their feet!

  11. I love the idea of ruffled metallic or vice versa and was expecting more than I got. I thought the use of material was quite tame in the dress or maybe it was the proportions. I’m now thinking about this a lot now which will get me no where…
Enjoy LFW, I’m catching a few early shows but then its head down for MA – books before looks
