I think I’ve expressed my distaste for the ‘rules’ of colour combinations in fashion. They seem so antiquated now that I half expect to find my Style Files Organiser that I had when I was 12 to pop out with a colour chart explaining what colours what skin tones can wear (no I haven’t really figured it out yet). Or perhaps, the rules may ring true and I just choose to ignore the mystical science behind fashion. Red, orange, pink and purple are perhaps not meant to be as a quadruplet but given the context of the dress, what else is there to do but to go with it and add the tights and the shoes.
The other ‘Not Supposed To Be’ element of the dress was that I bought this vintage Versus by Versace dress whilst I was wandering around in the Lower East Side in New York, trying to navigate my way around my ragged A4 printed shop map. I accidentally stumbled onto Suffolk Street and found this tiny gem of a place Fox & Fawn to which I excitedly exclaimed ‘Oh! A reader told me about this place!’ and dragged the boyf in, as both he and I were fed up with all the bumbling UK tourist divvy navigation. What a gem it was, as everything was both well curated and reasonably priced. No tat to be found here except maybe a bit of dust on the dusty antique furniture, and with exhibitions of student fashion art on the walls to boot. The dress immediately jumped at me with its Louise Goldin SS08 Starburst colours. Racked gives 8 reasons why Fox & Fawn are gr8 highlighting the most important of them all is that both owners have a fringe (or bangs…). Fringe aside, their polaroids on their MySpace make me want to return and rifle through the racks once more…

I LOVE it. I would love it by itself but your choice of tights and shoes make it even better.
woah you look really good in that bodyhugger of a dress. i’m afraid if i wore it people would think i were a walking traffic light. the tragedy.
the shoes and the tights complete the outfit! i’ve missed so many good posts, esp the artyfying bags one- i love the klimt, picasso, monet.. yum.
that outfit is perfect! i love the color combos and the tights and shoes work so well w/the dress.
i love that color combinations.. i’m the same way. i never care about what colors are “supposed” to go together, its better to just abandon those outdated rules
xoxo
rewrite the colour rule book for sure! the tights and the amazing pop shoes are perfection with the dress
Colour! Colour! Colour!
i love it! so playful!
my mom told me pink and red were tacky, for years i believed it… now don’t like color rules either…
colors are far too complex to make bold statements like that.
Brave combo! I love it.
Damn, that combo is fine. The tights are perfect with the dress. K
I love the colourblocking, it’s rainbow brite & it’s great.
wow, i’m not into wearing bright colors but i can certainly appreciate when a color combination is done incredibly well. i especially love the black piping on the shoes, it makes the pink color pop so much more.
aww its lovely
and i have very similar tights!!!
i love the colors they may be considered “clashing” but i think it looks great
LOVE those colours. V Emilio Pucci aw07. Now, where can I buy a pair of those legs?
I adore the outfit. I’m not always a fan of your outfits, but this…I love.
It’s amazing that such bold, bright (clashing) colors can make such a sleek, simple and great outfit. The “rules” of fashion were never that helpful to begin with, and this looks fantastic!
OH WOW!!! You’ve inspired me pull my 90s Versace clingy number out of the closet and throw on some fun tights. Susie, you rule! That dress is a major score.
girl, u got style*
Simply astonishing…Thank you for sharing
I love how you took Versace out of its typical ‘image’ and Susie-fied it (and you do look sexy, you know)- you’ve got a great eye for colour when it comes to your outfits, you know.
As for not combining colours, I never knew what wasn’t supposed to be worn with what as a kid. I’m rather glad we live in an era of mismatching, now..
That’s a fantastic combination! Of course it works!
For color & skintones: I use a chart from a Trinny & Susanna book as a basic guide, but add some exceptions. Every skintone is different.
you have a great sense of color…the shades fit perfectly and complements your black hair…love it 🙂
That looks amazing, especially with the tights and shoes!
The colours really do pop- you look great, I am a huge fan of clashing colours, even if not everyone agrees! x
Wow – Susie I cant imagine a colour or combination of colours NOT suiting you. You look fanastic in this. The Miu Miu for Pop shoes have prooved to be a good buy! X
You look amazing in that outfit, bravo!
I ABSOLUTELY LOVE THIS DRESS! – and i’m not a fan of color. if i were to do color boldly this would be it!!
clashy color combo – really fits you well!
have a lovely day
greets *FLORA
beautiful dress- ALL my favourite colours in one, how can i not love it! you look great
This is a fabulous find! And I think the purple tights look great with it…juicy fruits!
OMG! I am so happy to see you in this dress!! I actually almost bought that dress but my hippy hips wanted to bust those delicate seams even more than they already were!!! I adore Fox and Fawn and you look perfect in that Versus by Versace number!! YAY!
Beautiful dress “trés tendance”
Ah! That dress is stunning. Color rules were meant to be broken.
I say bah to the rules, your outfit is totally gorgeous. Strong colours!
WOW I like the dress :)!
What an amazing dress! I definitely think that the “clashing” colors actually make the whole thing even more fabulous!
You look *amazing* and I love the unexpected color combination.
