An image is far more powerful than whatever flowery language I can bestow so I’ll just say that the current Selfridges windows are mesmerising both in the selection of clothes and also in the grand scale of paper cuts (I really must find out the artist who has laboured over this….). So much so, that I saw people halted in their tracks mid-walking as they passed by the Selfridges window. An interest in fashion or not, these are windows to be admired for their artisanal execution. The paper cuts don’t seem to obscure the beauty of the clothes either and actually enhances them, which means that as someone who isn’t just a random passer-byer but a fashion obsessive, unfortunately I am now hankering after pieces by Erdem, Moschino and Ohne Titel.
Raf Simons
Alessandro Dell’Acqua // Unconditional, Alexander McQueen
Givenchy
Greenwich Village, Preen // Ohne Titel, Greenwich Village, Maison Martin Margiela
Erdem
Giles // Jonathan Saunders // Temperley
Moschino
Alexander McQueen
**EDIT** I should have known really when I was staring, gobsmacked at the intricacy of the papercuts in these windows that Fred Butler, who has previously done work on Selfridges display was responsible for all of this beautiful work. She may comment here to explain her inspirations but on a practical note, she is suffering from scalpel burns on her fingers so there is a price to be paid for magnificent endeavours such as these windows. I’m loving the fact that Selfridges are going that extra mile with their windows as I passed by Harvey Nichols and was frankly not impressed by a tacky looking sort of fairytale display.

Oh my. That’s so beautiful! I want my living room to look like that!
im so glad i’m going to london this weekend…
Oh wow….they’re so lovely. Like a fairy jungle dreamscape or someplace like that..
The Alexander McQueen fixture is simply haunting. Delectable, thanks for posting.
/DCB.
Thanks for posting these Susie. If you find out who designed them please post, I would love to know more and the inspiration behind it.
^ I second that..
God I miss London. I can’t wait to go to CSM. I’ll be asking for housing advice soon Susie… 🙂
these paper cuts remind me of a wheat-paste graffiti near boot street in shoreditch, i wouldn’t be surprised if it was the same artist.
These are amazing: I have never seen such beautiful window displays in my life (the town in which I live doesn’t even sell any of these designers). Thankyou for posting!
Selfridges always have the most amazing window displays. The paper cut outs remind of an artist called Arturo Herrera, whose exhibition i saw a couple of months ago. Magical stuff..
I love you TONS for posting this. Post more selfridges shop display pictures as they change xD I loved the one during august…it was all bright crazy neons, black metallic leggings, pvc jackets…lovely
but this is much better. It’s my new goal now to own atleast ONE gorgeously ruffled grey dress like that! thanks for posting again =)
My first guess as to the artist would have been Chris Natrop. He’s an L.A. based designer (I believe) who does this kind of meticulous paper detail in all of his installations.
It’s beautiful work — you should check him out if you aren’t already familiar with him.
for another brilliant paper artist, look into
http://www.petercallesen.com/index.html for a clever use of paper.
They’re gorgeous, and I’m glad you posted the photos. I never would have had a chance to see the windows otherwise.
I’m also glad that Ms. Butler is willing to suffer so that we can enjoy her lovely vision.
Thanks for the link, not afraid of colour! Beautiful work…
Alex: The artist here is Fred Butler but I will check out Chris Natrop…
I love Fred^_^
