The neon lives on…

I got sucked right in, and fell for it hook line and sinker.  I have literally fallen for that terrible cliche of ‘copying the pages of a magazine’.  The ‘Light and Fantastic’ editorial in the Feb issue of UK Vogue enlightened (oh.. the pun… the pun!) me as to what to do with my ickle stash of neons.  Mind you, it is a only a little stash.  So with a lot of paleness and ruffliness, a pair of pink neon tights were made into sleeves (in a practical sense, it adds an extra layer!) and suddenly hurrah, the neons have been freshened up a bit and doesn’t seem its usual garish self!  Still, sometimes, I really have to laugh at myself when I’m copy-catting at this blatant level…

  1. wow that looks amazing! i like it how you combine this more romantic look with the neon sleeves! it gives an unexpected edge to the outfit.

  2. love it, the first time i have seen neon being worn in a way that isnt embarassingly nu-rave!
how come you stopped putting where your clothes are from with a caption at the bottom of the photos?

  3. Fab look- and wearing the tights as sleeves puts a new spin on fluorescents- it stops the pastels and ruffles from being too twee and simultaneously keeps the neon fresh, rather than garish. Nice work, Susie!

  4. Ah Susie you’ve fallen for the beguiling talent of Lucinda Chambers – the only person I know would could make one dress up in a tutu and go out at Christmas time as the Sugar Plum fairy complete with turban.
She has a knack of it!

  5. Don’t say copycatting, say ‘inspired by’! After all, that exact look isn’t in the eitorial! 😉 I love your look. I’ve been contemplating the neon nail varnish myself.

  6. I’ve never seen “arm warmers” actually look acceptable until this outfit! Let’s not let a silly thing like nu rave ruin neon for us.

  7. I found that shoot really inspiring too – must get round to playing with my wardrobe to see how I can wear it!

  8. i liked that editorial too, makes me so warm and airy inside. i like your interpretation of the ed.
makes me wish spring will be here soon with lots of sun!! but since it is london…sigh

  9. You pulled this together perfectly! I don’t even know where one buys a ruffly pale blue shrug, but the whole ensemble looks amazing.

  10. Is that jacket vintage? It’s amazing . . it sort of reminds me of something from that Tim Walker editorial you just wrote about.

  11. Nevermind–just checked your daily wear page!
. . .I love that you’re wearing a vintage bed jacket! It looks so modern with the neons.

  12. Thanks everyone…. however, the public didn’t take to my neon sleeves as well as you did. Some guy was behind me and said ‘Are you going to a rave? Can I come with you?!’ Fortunately, I pretended not to hear him as I had my headphones on….
Emma: I’m now posting my daily outfits of what I wear here http://stylebubbledailywear.blogspot.com
You can find listings there…. though yes, I should list everything I wear in the Susie Styles category….

  13. I hate when people say neon is only part of the whole ‘indie-rave’ fad.
But Susie, I like it. And I too like that editorial. In fact, I was only looking at it on the train today.

  14. That man is silly and blind. Because all he saw was your sleeves and not the entire get-up! I love it =) Especially the sleeves…tights..clever!
I really love the colours…especially how you’ve paired it all with a soft grey!
And who cares if you’re taking it from a mag?
    you look good!!

  15. Ahhhh! This is so gooooooooooooooooood I love neon and pairing it with ss08 light fabrics looks fresh! Kudos to you! That vest is amazing…and everything. Sorry for my fan-girlness but I’m just really really inspired that someone real can pull this off.

  16. gorgeous, Susie, really! love it with the grey – this is one of the best outfits you’ve showcased on here in a while.
p.s. at Brick Lane market yesterday, my eagle-eyed boy spotted a pretty girl he thought was you! i wasn’t quick enough to see you, though. i think he wished he hadn’t pointed you out, because i immediatly grilled him on what you were wearing 🙂
