I have a feeling Txell Miras (who Queen Michelle loves so much…) is intent on pushing the boundaries of adding volume to clothing because for the Mango Fashion Awards, as a finalist, she incorporated these turning-pages into different length skirts and a pinafore dress. Using the motion of a turning page in a book, as opposed to the book as a static object, they create a sort of exaggerated pleat effect. I’m spying celestial illustrations and a picture of the Bard in amongst those pages so I’m truly hoping that when you look down at the skirt, that you can physically flick through the pages and get something coherent because reading material on the go is always appreciated by bored commuters like myself.
On a more serious wearing note (though I could seriously contempate wearing the above….it would be like the reverse of my years carrying a heffer of a rucksack by carrying the books on my hips instead… ), the page turning technique has been replicated here in fabric which might prove to be more practical. As these are additional outfits to Txell Miras’s SS08 collection, the detailing with the draped chains is carried through again.
Adding another historical context, not just through literary texts, Txell Miras has also figured out how to wear my beloved 18th century mantua dress shape in the 21st century. By shortening it, yet keeping the wide-hipped structure of course! It’s oh so simple… a big ‘Doh!’ to me for not figuring that one out…

oh! I don’t like it that much, mainly because i don’t know where i would wear it, i mean – where would you go with books attached to your skirt? i’m sure YOU could think of something, susie. where would you wear these creations?
love,

LOVE the pannier/chain dress. Any idea on where to buy it in London/cost?
Many thanks ๐
I too love the pannier….it warms my historical fashion lovin’ heart to see someone try to work w/ that shape. The “harlequenade” also intrigues me.
