Lego Blocks on the Legs

I’ve ALWAYS been into all the fanciful ways to adorn my legs.  Hence why Prada’s hoisery has got me yet again this season.  Hence why Sock-Dreams and Tabio have taken a good chunk of money from me (and taken up a two drawers).  Hence why I’m always experimenting with layers of hoisery.  Colour blocking with separates in colliding palettes of brights, pastels, mid-tones may be tricky if you don’t want to load up your whole body with colour so this editorial from the new issue of Wonderland has given me ideas of colour blocking on the legs by cutting up different lengths of tights and layering them over each other, creating assymetrical effects on both legs and random colour blocks.  Obviously, I’m not about to destroy my lovely Falkes, Tabios or Wolfords but it is a way of getting some use out of those crappy old Topshop, Urban Outfitters and Jonathan Aston tights (bought waaay too many of those in Camden as an angsty teen).  Failing that, a trip down to Roman Road or Brixton market (or your local equivalent..) should sort me out with some cheap coloured tights fit to experiment with.  I worry a little about the different lengths of cut up tights getting baggy so I’d buy the smallest size possible (or maybe even…kids tights?) to ensure a taut tight fit on the tights blocking ensemble.

  1. f*** the tights, those shoes are pure perfection!!! Can you tell me where they are from? Want to put them on my imaginary wish- list! Thanks!:)

  2. I got a pack of three grey woolly kids tights from Woolworths last winter. (Age 12 I think.) Fiver for the lot. *Punches air* Yessss!

  3. wont the tights run? it looks like if you can sew those pieces of fabric together it might be better. somehow, I feel like someone is going to make (or has it already been made?) tights to look like those and more.

  4. Colour blocking on the legs seems intriguing. It’s definitely on my list of things to try come Autumn-time.
And Diana, those shoes look pretty Balenciaga to me. I could be wrong, but the heel and overall shape just makes me think Balenciaga Autumn 06.

  5. Thanks so much for saving my pins from being snap-frozen in LDN this winter. I think Sock-Dreams will save my life. I’ll be wearing frocks in winter again and not pain my friends by whining about how my nanna knees are all locked up from the cold.
    Woolly tights. Hooray!
    Thanks, Susie.

  6. use “”old girls school tights” you know the thick Black nylon ones..what do they call them..70 denier..? i find they are the best for cutting up ..as you dont mind destroying them, i use them for many things
