Finally, a season comes along when I actually get interested in bags. Why? Because handbags are getting supersized for this winter as humongous handheld leather holdhalls were all over the catwalks, preferably adorned with fur or leopard print a la Louis Vuitton. However, the shape that I’m really loving in this ‘big bag brigade’ is the framed bag otherwise known as the Gladstone or doctor bag. The term ‘Gladstone’ bag may not sound so familiar to people outside the UK. This type of bag was much favoured by the British prime minister William Gladstone and was thus named after him. So for such a old bag style, it’s no wonder the nicest picks turn up on eBay. Here are some I have my eye on that would enable me to save a fortune on getting a new leather Gladstone. Structure and substantial size – my key bag words of the season.

Brown Grained Gladstone Bag // Large Black & Tan Gladstone Bag // 80’s Tapestry Gladstone Bag

Since this entry doesn’t have any comments I didn’t want it to be lonely. And I also wanted to say that you do such a wonderful job with your blog. I check it whenever I’m on the computer browsing and I just love it when you have new entries (which is often, thanks!) Keep up the amazing work Susie!!
I LOVE frame style bags. The perfect mix between demure and edgy.
Beautiful bags. You know, I’d just resolved to stop buying shoes and bags because I’m moving back to Australia in January… and now I want more! I love this style of bag, but I’ve not seen so many back in Oz.
Actually, I’m really going to miss eBay UK – eBay Australia doesn’t have nearly as many beautiful vintage things 🙁
Still… plenty of time to ignore my resolutions and stock up! 😀
these are fabulous — wish they could ship to the states!!
Was Mr. Gladstone a homosexual? these bags seem to be terribly feminine. LOL!
