Let me just put it bluntly – the word ‘scene’ gives me the jitters. By ‘scene’, I’m talking about a social gathering at music clubs usually of the ‘indie’ (another word that should be made redundant) music ilk. So, a person hanging out at ‘scene’ clubs would be a ‘scenester’. At least, that’s the broadest definition I can give. I’m not going to wax lyrical about what the precise definition of ‘scene’ is since some of you may have completely different ideas. London most definitely has a big ‘scene’ culture just by nature of being a big city. So, if I didn’t post some pictures of *groan – there she goes using that word again* scene fashion, how can we fully explore what London streetstyle has to offer? These are taken from Disorder magazine July and August issues. You may cry outrage and say ‘Urgh…these people are the worst dressed people ever’ but I’ve always leaned towards to the school of thought, that having a lack of style is far worse than having a sense of style not to your liking. So I probably don’t aspire to look like most of these people but respect to them for having their own style and injecting their personality into their clothes. Plus, these pictures speak more to me about what London streetstyle is about than say Vogue’s streetstyle pictures even though they may be in the minority.

I just want to say…. I scroll your blog every other day, if not every day. You make me want to leave the Big Apple and set up shop in Foggy London Town.
I love reading your findings. I think you are an adorable inspiration to fashionistas everywhere who are not afraid to try on something different for a change. Keep fighting the good fight. And I’ll keep reading. *hugs*georgie*

for teenagers, scene means girls with tight skinny jeans, layered shirts, bows in their hair, pearls, flats, and short choppy multicolored hair. there’s no deviation of sytle; everyone wears exactly the same type of clothes regurgitated.
I find a lot of scenesters to be arrogant dolts lacking brains or strong senses of style. Perhaps it’s the Philadelphia “scene” that focuses on musty 80s spandex that’s supposedly “vintage” and really pretentious taste in music. While a lot of the clothes/outfits pictured up there are great, I have such little tolerance for those scenester kids.
ooooooo i like their style though! it looks like an amped up version of me…
If I dressed like them, I’d be considered a scenester, since I’m a complete audiophile and go to shows all of the time. Since I’m IN a band, I’m even more apt to falling prey to scenester-itis. However, I can’t stand their attitudes or the way they dress for the most part, so it’s pretty easy to carve out my own fashion niche in our local music underground.

– well, that’s at least what it means in America, but I think the British version looks rather different. I just dislike pretentious scene kids because they go to every concert ever without even knowing or caring about the band.*groan*
