Berube – French Chic, British Edge and American Prep

‘A dash of perfume and she’s gone, out to the street in subtle splendour.  Her features speak of health – her clothe – comfort, confidence.  The beautiful slouch bags bulges with ideas – books, notes and objects hinting at her passions.  She slips the last corner with grace, off to an intrigue known only to her….’

This statement perfectly sums up a girl likely to be wearing Berube, a London-based label that debuted at LFW and now have launched an online boutique selling their spring/summer 06 collection.  These are pieces that speak of elegance and grace yet there’s also something hardwearing and solid about them as well.  The bags in particular aren’t for girls who fanny about with teensy tiny clutches.  They’re for girls like me who cram their life into their bags and have iPods, sketchbooks, magazines, novels overspilling.  The blue trenchcoat is something to throw on over anything that in a haste, still creates a stylish outfit without effort.   I may like complicating outfits with quirks, but with these pieces, you feel as if you should just let them be and speak for themselves.

The spring summer collection has this slight hint at 1920’s leisurewear that has a very multi-national feel, combining Parisian effortless elegance, English quirky styling and American lux sportswear.  Berube’s harmonious mish-mash of styles  makes me wanna put on the Guillemots (Bubble Tunes) and rush out into the sun and go about my way in London seeing everything and doing everything.  The online boutique sells some of the collection and accessories but if you see something in their catwalk looks or you can’t find something in your size, drop them an email and they’re more than happy to help you out.  They also offer international shipping – something of a rarity!

Judging from the A/W06/07 collection, which looks even more enticing, I think I’ve found my new label of choice for in and out everyday wear that still feels special and me.
