An undeserved price tag for a deserved cause

Keira Knightley’s Vera Wang dress that she wore to the Oscars has been sold on eBay for £4,301, to a bidder from Chicago who beat 47 people at the last minute to claim it.  The money will go to Oxfam’s £20 million appeal to help people living in East Africa where it has been hit by drought.

Now I know the cause is very deserving of this money and it’s great that Keira donated her dress to such a cause.  But, does anyone else think that the bidder has paid too much for what in my opinion is just not a very nice dress at all………  it’s like a claret taffeta blancmange….

I only hope the person is just into collecting Oscars memorabilia and feeling extremely charitable, and not wanting to actually wear the dress.  How bad would it be to be ‘the girl in Keira Knightley’s old dress’?

  1. i’m glad that it made a lot of money for a good cause, but still…that dress, i thought, was a little hideous. (now, if it was michelle williams’ dress…)
i wonder what the seller is going to do with it?

  2. There are pieces of it that are pretty nice – I like the asymmetrical top part – but for some reason, the dress as a whole doesn’t appeal to me.
I agree though, at least the $ goes to a good cause!

  3. It’s for a good cause. I don’t see how it’s any different from donating $4,301. You can think of it as the winner as being a good person and the dress as a freebie.
