I’m not too familar with the German director, Wim Wender’s film work other than having briefly watched Buena Vista Social Club and even then, that was because it was nominated for an Oscar. Apparently, his best work was in the late 80’s with films like Paris, Texas and Wings of Desire (I should really brush up on my film history….). If anyone would like to enlighten me, that would be fab! But I’m only mentioning Wim Wenders because he is the supposed inspiration behind this 20 page editorial shot by Peter Lindbergh (more familiar territory to me!) featuring Sasha Pivovarova in the special Cannes supplement with May’s Vogue Paris.
It’s shot on a beach in mostly black and white with a faint swash of smoky colour. I love the effects that Lindbergh has used but would really love to find out more about his inspiration to better understand this editorial.

susie,
wim wenders makes ethereal films that at times are a bit heady and sombre, but jam-packed full of life. truly lovely stuff.
you should try to pick up “wings of desire” to see what i mean. it is about angels and trapeze artists in berlin prior to the fall of the wall.
when an angel becomes mortal for the love of a woman, you just get all dewy eyed.
Oooh…now I’m definitely intrigued! I shall pick rent some DVD’s…. any other recommendations from Maestro Wim? I like doing director marathons….. last week, I did Ingmar Bergman part deux (waaay too many films to fit in one marathon) and this week, my friends wanna do Jim Jarmusch (again…)
don’t miss “a notebook on cities and clothes”! it’s about yohji yamamoto!
i love bergman. which films did you watch? fanny and alexander is by far my favorite.
Oooh…I have a few favourites but yes, Fanny and Alexander is definitely up there! I watched Lesson in Love, Saraband, the Through a Glass Darkly, Winter Light & The Silence trilogy and F&A for the 5th time!
That was a lot of quality couch time.
i love “until the end of the worldd”. even if you don’t like it you enjoy the locations – japan, australia, london, germany – some interesting fashion and some sadness. oh and love.
