If the designer Comme Des Garcons strikes fear in your heart, because you love it but find it ever so hard to wear then hopefully this might help! It really isn’t the easiest designer to wear if we’re talking about the more unconventional pieces. Alas, I’m not one of those people that can pull off the avant-garde look from head to toe (for some reason, petite Japanese girls do it very well and I somehow come off looking like I’m playing dress-up….it does take a lot of nochalence to pull off these kind of designers). So if I’m to indulge in my love and passion for CdG – nothing to do but to mix one piece with a whole lot of normal stuff to dilute the effect and go for interesting layering to winterise a piece if it’s a little skimpy. I also find big bags also make an outfit seem more natural – I’m not sure why but it suits me fine seeing how much stuff I trawl around with me.
Comme des Garcons multicoloured Knotted cropped blazer, vintage Steeplechase grey polo shirt, Carolina Herrera grey silk flared skirt, Charles Jourdan grey pumps, Jane Shilton grey leather clutch
Comme des Garcons puff sleeve black blazer, vintage white crochet cotton dress, Calvin Klein skinny jeans, black and white oxford shoes
Junya Watanabe for CdG gold draped top (ended…can’t find link!), black and white stripy top, vintage burgandy A-line skirt, 80’s black ankle boots, grey rasta knit cap, Mark Cross grey shopping tote
Comme des Garcons assymetrical skirt w/ floral print inside, 80’s black babydoll shirt, Sam & Libby black leather ballet shoes, vintage Chanel black leather tote

That’s exactly the way that i dress w/ the vast amounts of issey miyake i inherited from my mother
although i am a petite japanese girl and can’t pull off the head-to-toe japanese desiger look but they are some of my favorite pieces and i find myself wearing them everyday mixed w/ my other clothes just like you showed…
the trick to wearing comme des garcons is that it’s only really cohesive by collection. as long as your wearing the same season it looks fantastic wearing head to toe cdg. otherwise i think it looks a bit too busy and cluttered.
Thanks for the tip jordan – alas I’m one of those people who compulsively complicate and clutter outfits for no good reason – as much as I want to be a purist – I like to mix and match – it’s a nervous tick I have!
I’m also not sure how good it is to dress head to toe in one label even if it is CDG Works for some people but DEFINITELY not for me….perhaps I need to grow up fast and stop being so messy with my outfits….
maybe i should amend what i said. wearing any one designer head to toe is definitely not a good thing. i feel that it’s much better to have eclectic style. and layering lots of pieces totally looks cool when done right (a/w 06 marc jacobs). the only reason i would worry with layering tons of comme des garcons is that many comme pieces have so much volume or such distinctive prints they would look silly together. who knows. i’m not saying i’m right. just an opinion. i wear the same jeans and t shirt every day.
No no….your point was an interesting one – I believe that CdG when worn from the same collection can indeed look marvellous. I was just saying that I lack the sophistication to do so…. one day though!
