Buried Treats

>> It's time to start fiddling around with big nubby toggle buttons as bare legs are starting to get a bit prickly from nubby goosebumps and leaves are turning colours (though not half as pretty as they are here…).  This Element of Eden coat will be starting the duffle days proceedings (with more to come I hope – I love anything with toggle buttons) for practical warmth …

… but if I want to stubbornly insist that I'm not cold, then it's what's underneath that is important here.  I know I put up a very VERY late J.W. Anderson sample sale notice on Saturday morning but that was the sort of sale it was – low key and buried down in a Shacklewell Lane basement for J.W. Anderson's growing London fanbase to go diving into.  With just two rails and some shelving, everything was ACTUALLY a sample ( as opposed to overstock) and was priced accordingly.  A little rip here or there was left to the discretion of buyer whether to mend or not which suits J.W. Anderson's interestingly dishevelled stylings…

I went for a lace top that Steve says makes me look like I'm wearing a figure skating costume… chanelling inner Michelle Kwan can only add poise right?

Slightly more versatile but equally head-scratching was this belt that comes with a half knitted skirt/loincloth embroidered with all sorts of bits and pieces that makes it weigh an absolute ton.  It was used in the S/S 11 show as part of the mens collections, styled to look like a jumper had been tied round the waist, trailing the back of trousers.  I've always loved the idea of combining two skirts into one and any opportunity to don a half-skirt is fine by me especially when there are kilt-esque buckles involved…

This piece isn't flight friendly though as it's a good 1kg plus… I may have to jangle my way through security with it…

My feet got very happy on a shoot when I had these J.W. Anderson 'bearded' A/W 11-12 shoes on.  Miracles of all miracles, my weirdly maleable feet fit into these size 4 samples that were at the sale.  I'm noticing one shoe is slightly more beardy than the other which means either one is due for a trim or I'll have to somehow add a bit of beard.  Perhaps I could incorporate in some lilac bear just to mix things up.  At the very least, I'll be stopping my M&J Trimming in New York to get some different coloured elastics to make some loopy lace….

  1. I adore the “figure skating costume top”; it almost acts as a beautiful anf equally intricate and meticulous in detail canvas background, therefore everything you wear on top of it, will simply form the scracthes of a somewhat (clothing?)collage…along with that, the skirt is also, well, INCREDDIBLE. I mean, isn’t it just the type of thing that can secretly and quitely hang in your wardrobe, without probably much wear but rather a consistent source of inspiraition?…oh- and there is not guilt here, just pure and simple indulgence…

  2. Ah I went to the sample sale too but couldn’t really find anything that would work for me, love the way you styled that skirt though! I was wondering how it might look on. Love the duffle coat too, noticed it’s not available online, is there a UK stockist?
