>> What to do on a rain drenched day like today? Escape into the elegant lines running through Pablo Bronstein's exhibition Sketches for Regency Living at the ICA and catch Mary Katrantzou's specially designed costumes in action on the dancers that will be performing regularly throughout the exhibition period. I couldn't just be content with seeing Katrantzou's sketches online and for those that didn't know that there would be choreographed performances happening in the lower gallery of the ICA, it's a sumptuous surprise to hap upon. Me? I stalked the dancers Irene Cena (in gold) and Rosalie Wahlfrid (in green), observing their starkly contrasting choreographed performances against the illusionistic backdrop of a Georgian forecourt. The background accentuated Irene's jester-esque jerky movements, with 18th century Royal court bows interspersed with classic portraiture poses. Rosalie's dance was clearly meant to be more feminine – elongated arms and legs extending across the lines drawn on the columns in the backdrop, enhanced by the layers of chiffon and fringing of the skirt that Katrantzou has designed. It's especially rewarding to see clothes of this decorative level in movement, an entirely different beast of course to a catwalk show and if truth be told, far more intriguing.
Regency Dance
love it!
the poses are very Commedia ‘del Arte, which is a form of Venetian performance art
I learned Commedia and it is very hard! the model’s posing have down well to look like the characters they are possibly imitating 🙂

Is it suppose to be gay clothing?
sure seems that way
Mister: Erm… they are DANCE costumes…
And if you mean “gay” as in jovial and happy then yes, I suppose they are.
I suspect that isn’t your meaning though in which case you might want to refrain from describing clothes as “gay”…
I spent a few moments looking over your articles and
your site, very well put together. I will be checking
back often. Keep up the good work
