>> Fashion having a love-in with art, by sponsoring exhibitions, collaborating with artists and generally wanting to attach itself to a discipline to gain kudos, added gravitas and credibility? Not.News.
I was however mighty impressed with Louis Vuitton’s latest art venture which launched today, where they have sponsored and faciliated a site called Recreative in partnership with Whitechapel Gallery, Southbank Centre, Royal Academy of Arts, Tate Britain and South London Gallery. Louis Vuitton’s Young Arts Project last year and twelve of its participants have come together to develop this website that aims to inspire interest in contemporary art amongst peers. By ‘young’, I mean developing teen young Рthirteen upwards or those that are even younger perhaps Рan interesting age group to be offering insight from mahussive insider professionals and artists РJefferson Hack, Tracy Emin, Laura Wilson. It’s not doled out in a dumbed-down “This is for YOUNG people!” format and I found the videos fairly fascinating.
In addition Recreative offers a platform for people to upload their project ideas with art critics judging them each month. A grown up version of Tony Hart’s gallery if you will (except you can go beyond the confines of chalk pastels and acrylic paint sunset scenes…)
I’m obviously not Recreative’s target audience but it seemed quite potent that in a country where arts funding is being hacked away by the government, a company like Louis Vuitton has very subtly offered a helping hand by sponsoring and providing the insider-contacts for a website like this with VERY little branding presence at all, as evidenced by the launch event today at Covent Garden Piazza. Is it a cherry on top of LVHM’s arts philanthropy agenda cake? Perhaps, but at least it isn’t about vanity and could actively make a difference to encouraging British (or others…) youngsters to get interact with art and pave out possible creative career paths for them.
In frothier news, Louis Vuitton had rickshaws going from their New Bond Street store over to Covent Garden Piazza to get people over to the RECreative launch… I sat in one just to test the comfort factor of the seat before I toodled off. Trust LV to do a cushty rickshaw seat…
coolness, interesting post. I love riding in rickshaws! x

None can doubt the veirtacy of this article.
I’ve never had a ride in a rickshaw before, I want to though. I like what Louis Vuitton have done though. Sponsoring something like this is very noble and inspiring.
