>> I rarely want to emulate someone else's outfit to an exacting degree until of course I saw Thea Basiliou, the lovely owner of Brisbane stalwart store Blonde Venus (definitely my next destination, the next time I'm down in Oz…). On a daily basis at RAFW, I love watching her style and I almost wanted to do a daily diary of her outfits were it not for the slightly stalker-ish element involved. At the very least, though I snapped this humdinger of an outfit, consisting of mostly Karen Walker loveliness. It's sort of the unspoken thing how lovely Karen Walker is in general and it's most evident when you browse the fairly comprehensive online store with her output in clothes, jewellery and sunglasses.
I somehow don't get reminded enough of the degree of quiet loveliness that Walker's aesthetic can conjure up, until I see people like Thea wearing an abundance of floral print pieces from Karen Walker's 'Perfect Day' S/S 11 collection. See? Even the collection's name 'Perfect Day' is apt and appropriate. Therefore I'm well considering doing an outfit copycat with the floral print crepe de chine shirt and matching boat trousers to experience the loveliness for myself. Plus, it's quite a bit of fun converting NZD prices to GBP, unlike the AUD which is actually hurting me a bit at the moment (2 quid for a bottle of water… just why?).
I love the outfit – but I probably wouldnt be able to wear the pants as successfully – but the shirt – now thats another matter:):) I will check out the Walker collection…

very nice outfit!
As someone who once suffered a trip to London when the Aussie dollar was worth 30p, I feel your pain. The average consumer Down Under thinks it’s great that the dollar is on steroids because they can buy things cheap online from America and Europe, but it must be really, really hurting local designers who are trying to sell overseas right now.
Amazing jewelery as always love it

I completely love this outfit, especially the chunky orange accessory! 🙂
I never know how to take the fashion from places like this. Sometimes I take it seriously and want to wear it, and some of it is just too much. Would someone explain why the craziness when you know people won’t wear some of these things? Is it an exaggerated form of the genre?

That really is perfect isn’t it. Her waist drawstring almost looks like a baby blue shoe string. At the very least, it is a perfect baby blue. Everything is perfect.
Thea is amazing and always looks so gorgeous and unique! I’m so pleased to see one of our lovely Brisbane style icons on your blog!!
Love her outfit!!!

I’ll have to be the sole voice of upheaval… the pyjama with grannie coat and tote is a look that needs shredding. Is she off to pick up her pension… or hitting fashion week, you just never know. Never know… Good to see the store is fine and dandy, the floods up there were severe.
is that the Bally bag, seen in Harpers?
Wow, what gorgeous looks! Gorgeous!
