>> I normally need to toy a little with the title of a post to get something witty going on but when it's as purist and committed as the name of this project that Tommy of This is Naive has just launched, then there's no messing around with it. The Beautiful and the Good is Tommy's new product site that I suppose isn't anything concrete at the moment but instead will run its own course and basically follow these words of Malcolm McLaren that sums up what Tommy is trying to do with the site in a neat nutshell…
"…but it's on the turn towards something else…
…more slow…
…more focused…
…more reassuring I think…
…more caring and ultimately…
…more profound.
It's not about the shock of the new.
It's about the love of the newly familiar.
To show something old in a new way.
To have ideals again."
To begin with she has launched her first project for The Beautiful and the Good which is the Blue Monday Basket which is now pretty much all sold out but the important thing to note here is that it's the beginning of The Beautiful and the Good and that what I am most excited about is Tommy's vision which like her blog is always articulated through an enduring and high level of excellence, consideration and above all, with her distinct personality. These baskets are like the first peep into what could be inside them, future products that illustrate everything in the above McLaren paragraph and more. Rather than churning out full on fashion collections, instead you get a lovingly made product of careful investigation of process, craft and provenance. I won't delve too much into the details of the baskets but of course the style and abundance of imagery comprise to form a deliciously enticing heads up for the sort of thing we can expect from the world of The Beautiful and the Good…
