Fast Forward Vintage

>> I think I've described the 'new wave' of vintage sellers in clunkier and more long winded ways before but e-store Black Velvet Circus have defined what they and others such as Nastygal, The Olive Shoppe etc do in a succinct fashion; "vintage can be fast forward".  The phrase is perhaps a little oxymoronic but the thinking that vintage clothes that forward think to a contemporary angle, seems to work well in shifting vintage clothing today.  The Berlin-based Black Velvet Circus is another one to add to the mix and also happens to have a pretty affordable pricing range with barely anything topping EUR50.  I didn't get to explore the full fruits to be gained from Berlin's thriving vintage scene but I'm glad some of it is making it online via Black Velvet Circus' selection.  Unfortunately this is rather a selfish post seeing as they don't currently ship outside the EU…  maybe a few badgering emails will do the trick.  I used to do this with stubborn eBay sellers… they normally bend in the end… wuhahahaha…

They also have a few young designers alongside their vintage wares, a method employed by the vintage new wave to mix and match stock in the styling… lots of murky tiedye patterns from JULIAANDBEN and a soft tailoring from Paula Immich… again all at fairly friendly mid-level pricing.

  1. I’m definitely going to check out Black Velvet Circus as I really like what I see. Thanks for sharing.

  2. There was a site I remember going to before that sold all reworked vintage clothing – restyled and updated for life in the 21st century with more modern silhouettes (ie, shorter dress length, etc), but I can’t remember for the life of me what it was called. Something strange; I have no idea.
But my terrible memory aside – I’m definitely a fan of any sites offering up handpicked vintage clothes – a much more convenient option than slogging through thrift and consignment shops, plus it’s (somewhat) eco-friendly. (And they seem to be popping up all over the place nowadays). I’m glad vintage clothing has become much more chic and mainstream than it used to be.

  3. I should definately hate you for this post, because my bank manager is going to kill me.
Also just thought I’d let you know you have my link on your side bar, but it’s changed now, Dazed Young Mess/Leather Lace and Studs is no more, I now have my brand new blog, Fashion Stereotype Please take a look, and if you feel fit link me again 🙂 Thank you susie! x

  4. Oh wow the clothes are amazing.
How have you found this shop ?
I think i have a new favourite online shop 😉

  5. These threads are ok. The Chad likes the demure but dirty attitude the conveify.
But I prefer my models to be less waif-like and have much bigger bazongas. And I prefer their threads to involve more torn fishnet and patchy leather.

  6. Back In Style.com is a great Miami based vintage e-store that ships anywhere in the world. Lots of great choices starting at just $10. A personal favorite!

  7. Thank you Susie!! The “thrift shopping” scene is still there but not as well publicized (which is a good thing too). So many style idols incorporate thrifted pieces into their outfits and sometimes even the entire outfit is thrifted.
Cheers to the ressurgence of the thrifter!
