Back to Back II

>> I was a little gutted I couldn't see the new Back by Ann Sofie Back collection up close and in person yesterday, as my flight got in too late and now with the black and white lookbook pictures, picking out actual colours is even harder.  I'm told there's a mix of "muted, dirty pastels, mudpink, khaki, eggshell, concrete and rust." which makes my missing the presentation even worse seeing as I have a bit of a fixation with pastel that have been smeared with some sludginess.

Still, the lookbook is a bit of a bold move for Ann Sofie Back's secondary line as it's the first time she has done one and it also features not models necessarily, but customers who have helped to shape the progression of Back.  Thankfully the agenda of "Hey, y'all we're using REAL women" hasn't been shoved down my throat and in the case of these 'real' Back women, they look like they are convincingly inhabiting these clothes and that off-camera, they'll probably still be wearing their outfits and wearing them well.  With the price range sitting between EUR50, and EUR350, the upper bracket of that means there are pieces that are slightly more 'design driven' and more than just a twisted basic.  Me thinks these are probably items like the water resistant parka and the longer dresses as well as some of the tailoring.  I keep remembering what Andrew Ibi of The Convenience Store said of the Back line, as something that packs maximum design into a fairly minimal price and even without seeing it up close, this collection seems to tick that box again, with its contrasts of romance, sportswear and basic jersey strands.  Still, I need to see some of that palette too to get the full idea…

  1. clothes aside i agree; not only is her use of the ‘non-model model’ convincing, these models make the shoot about a million times more beautiful and interesting than any other model i could imagine!!!

  2. look at the shoulders. it’s all about the shoulders. and of course the drape. so many great pieces.

  3. I absolutely love this entire collection and I am sure I would love it even more in colour muddy pastels sound just about perfect

  4. Could it be she wants us to focus on the pure aesthetics of the texture of the fabrics, the silhouette outline and the design details that really seem to stand out once you remove the colour aspect.
Now all you gotta do is colour in the dirty pastels, mudpink, khaki, eggshell, concrete and rust with your imagination and then see if the clothes fit that expectation.
