Thread and Knot

I mentioned that I was on a bit of a scarf tangent lately and fortunately, this neatly coincides with the launch of label Lucy Jay, a British digital print scarf label that adds a slightly more graphic slant to the existing set of scarf new guns that I love… Trust Fun's warped fractals, Swash's delicate watercolour botanic-inspired designs, Forget Me Not's fairy characters and  now Lucy Jay's colourful geometrics…

Like Liberty's immense scarf room, Lucy is very keen on promoting the idea of wearing the scarves in different ways which is reflected in her lookbook.  I'm rubbish at asking for help in stores because I always want to keep to myself and not cause any fuss so I've never actually asked the Liberty Scarf Girls on their tricks and methods.  Lucy's lookbook gives a few ideas as to what to do with her square and rectangular scarves…

As lovely as Lucy's scarf wearing options are, for some reason I haven't quite got the hang of the headscarf thing which probably steps over the boundaries into the hair and beauty department given that I have to grapple with my silly mane.  Instead, when I took a gander at Lucy Jay's samples, I thought the best thing to do would be to give them a knotting base to hook onto… aka Fannie Schiavoni's cage chain dress.  It's the sort of thing where you start threading, knotting and draping and then can't ever replicate again so if I had more time, I might have given you ten combinations where the scarves interloop and are knotted over twice thrice through the chains.  Still, the effect is that of a disorderly jumble of fabrics that is possibly a lot more dishevelled than the looks that Lucy Jay proposes in her lookbook…

Still… I kind of like it when you look at the patterns up close trying to figure out where stripe ends and eyeballs begin…

These three ladies here have given the thumbs up and who am I to go against them?

Thumbs up
