Today I’m Getting Animal AM

Miike Snow's Animal is in the head so I'm starting the day with 'ANIMAL' on the mind and ending the day with another dose of 'ANIMAL', hence the AM/PM in the title.  If I was confronting realistic replicas of the beast yesterday with my faux fur post, then in reaction, I'm of course going to turn to more literal representations of Animal, especially when so many designers do it so well…

The first of which is Hildur Yeoman who I haven't heard from since 2008 when I had a bit of a mildly jealous post over how one person could be so multi-talented.  She is still the… fashion/accessories designer, teacher, stylist illustrator and general awesome collaborator it seems and putting aside petty jealousies, all I can do is give a very straight forward high five to the girl.  While she's been toiling away on her illustration work that has been regularly exhibited, she's decided to do one collection of accessories a year, the latest of which very neatly coincides with my day of getting animal…

Involving a LOT of crochet, swans, beads, gems…

… and from her previous collection, she has fortunately continued using poodles…

These bags are definitely my animal of choice given that my building doesn't allow pets and obviously a pink crochet poodle is slightly more humane than one that has been subjected to some very odd dye treatments…

Clearer shots of the swan and poodle bags can be seen here, from the Kron Kron online store…

Swans are clearly on both Hildur and her photo co-collaborator Saga Sigur√∞ard√≥ttir's mind (she shot her latest lookbook images…) seeing as they also feature in plastic form in Saga's images of Kron Kron's new shoes.  They have also both collaborated in a BEAUTIFUL set of images entitled 'Garden of Enchantment' where they were both inspired by a Greek mythology and Russian fairy tales as well as their Icelandic surroundings and so combined their forces where Saga took the pictures and Hildur did the styling and also illustrated the photos that were printed on wood, paper and fabric.  The effect is like the images are both aged and alive, threatening to leap off the screen with brush strokes accompanying the haunted faces…

Noticing the clothing credits, there are a good lot of names that I'm not familiar with, all presumably Iceland-based… banish this silly ash cloud and perhaps I'll hop over for a weekend of discovery…?  I say, BE GONE, ash cloud! Or I'll set my poodle on ya!

  2. The bags are very Hello Kitty and should sell fast- but the crochet necklaces- exquisite!

  3. Beautiful photography. This is like a completely different style I have come across. I have never seen such photography, it’s beautiful… I am there is no words to describe it, almost seems like they have painted with pastel colors over the photograph. Exceptionally beautiful.

  4. Firstly, LOVE Miike Snow. Secondly, found myself stroking my screen while looking at this post. It all looked so tangible that i have found myself longing for a technology where we can feel textures via screens!

  5. I LOVE MIKE SNOW ANIMAL!!!!!!! it’s so easy to get stuck in your head. Also these pictures remind me of les miserables
and the time I tried to make my sketch book for art class look all mysterious with pastels.

  6. Those little crochet animals kill me!! I love it! And the necklace with the beads is pretty great as well. Those prints are son haunting. I hope you get to hope over to iceland! I can’t imagine what you’d find to share with us over there 🙂
