I happen to be one of those geeks that appreciates lengthy introductory talks to the localised fashion industry in cities outside of the main four fashion capitals. For Fashion Week in Berns, during one of said talks, it was emphasised that denim was a Stockholm staple and primarily galvanised the fashion industry in the 90s-00s… Acne in particular now holds the key to a stable 'cool' fortress that in more ways than one really props up Stockholm Fashion Week.
So I look to Ksubi's 10th Anniversary show, which is closing RAFW in Sydney with a heft load of curiosity. Not least because just three months ago, Ksubi was placed into voluntary administration in order to restructure the company and it seems now, with a mahussive returning show, a ten year rebirth point for the label is upon us. I've always been attracted not necessarily to the denim in the denim labels but definitely in the "universe" that some of them curate for themselves (Ksubi's irreverance, Acne's design tract, Current Elliot's recent collab with Marni). Therefore, I've got my eyes glued towards everything that is a-go-go for a show that will perhaps be the turning point in Ksubi's future… the ever-influential Brana Wolf is on board guiding the design team and styling the show, Kannon Rajah (Miu Miu, Fendi, Victoria's Secret…) will be doing the casting and Ksubi will be forcing themselves to show seasonally as opposed to "whenever they feel like it".
I peeked at some of the slight changes that perhaps Ms.Wolf has been instigating at Ksubi HQ with this 1002 collection (as in Feb 2010) aptly named "Successful Business" and whilst denim is still the stronghold, more of a fine-tuned aesthetic is being turned out in the accompanying components…
I'm still eager to see the 'more' from Ksubi, the apparel that compliments the denim that makes my head turn in the same way that Acne's non-denim pieces do. I'm predicting that this 'more' is coming now financial woes and all the shake-up is behind them… let's hope it doesn't involve rats or dead birds come Friday… projectile vomiting onto a runway is NOT something anybody needs to see unless you're into gut analysis…

I would like to experience that twist back top and brocade-y denim bike pants howev’s…was totz gonna sell my vintage brocade jeans in that exact fabrication. Not now. Phew. That coulda been a sad mess for me.

2010-05-03 at 1:53 AMI like the leather shorts–some of the darker or more biker inspiration, not sure how to put it. Not really into the denim looks.

2010-05-03 at 6:06 PMI like the leather pieces, but I’ll stick to the denim. I think Acne’s the only brand that makes clothing beyond denim that I actually like.

2010-05-04 at 3:54 AMKsubi has had their hey day. I predict that it’s the same old from before. They need to do way more than release a fantastic collection with an over the top runway to get myself and others back into them.
