This is an Anthony Bourdain-esque Cook's Tour post script note at the end of each chapter. Actually, there are no chapters. There is JUST the one post script note. Reasons why Susie SHOULD not speak on camera and why she SHOULD not be on video. This closely relates to a topic that EJ and I were discussing, about the possibility and hilarity of me doing 'haul vlogs' after watching an hour's worth of them (they are engrossing but not for the right reasons, one might add…). I concluded that were I to actually get the balls to do said haul vlogs, I'd look and sound like a fooligan. This is concrete proof.
Joyce just sent through a video accompanying the lifesize cut-out styling session that I did in Hong Kong, that they very lovingly edited…. wafty music, clothes, smiles, carefully edited voiceovers… la-di-da-da-da-da…
Except one crucial thing.
I said…
"Peace Out. Keep it chilled. Thank you." at the end.
THUD. CLATTER. SHITE.
WHAT POSSESSED ME TO DO SUCH A THING? Watching it is like having an outer-body experience, with the real me hovering over a cliched California-ised person that semi-resembles me spewing absolute rubbish. I want to go into the video and gouge her eyeballs out. And then chuck them at the Marios Schwab dress that 'she's' wearing. The real me wouldn't do that of course, Marios – your print is too pretty.
I share this with you now because if the vid ever did get circulated and some of you who actually know me, came back asking "Hey I saw this video with someone that looked like you but it didn't SOUND like you and err… you said something really moronic at the end…" then I'd have an explanation.
Is there one? I tried on far too many clothes? Didn't have any food? Not enough water? No sunlight? It was filmed at the end of the day… I'm trying to recall. I remember zilch. I'm going with the classic line… "The lights were too bright…" There is no peace or chilled-out-ness to be had after watching this…
I actually think you speak in a slightly sing songish manner which is adorable. You have a very pleasant, soft British accent, not Californian at all! Don’t worry!
no, that’s absolutely lovely, funny and cute! seriously! and you look so gorgeous in all these outfits! hoping to see more susie bubble vids!
chill out aaaand… keep it real 😉
You’re being a little hard on yourself, I think it’s a great little clip even with the “Peace Out. Keep it chilled. Thank you.” at the end.
It’s nice to hear your voice too 🙂
…xXx
Pah! it was a great video – but I totally get you. I promised myself I was never going to be filmed again after I said “Twitter” without the middle t’s in a Somerset accent – “Twiieerrr”. Oops.
I’m so jealous of those outfits though – why don’t I dress like that?!! xx
‘in my spare i like to catch the waves…stroll down boulevard…and grab my favourite pro-biotic tea..’
Kidding… awesome video… you are now officially ‘blog’…when the word blog is sounded it’s now synonymous with Bubble.
You say Blog, we say Bubble…Blog, Bubble…Blog, Bubble.
aha, i remember the first time i recorded myself for an oral exam. listening back to it made me ten times more nervous because i realised that it didn’t matter how many grammatical mistake i did or didn’t make, i sounded like a MORONNNNNN! ha ha, you really haven’t anything to worry about, but everrrrrybody hates the sound of their own voice and at least you LOOK wonderful in all the Joyce ensembles to balance any worries you might have!

Thanks for sharing honey. I am terrible on camera.Usually say the most random things!
xoxo
marian
‘”Peace Out. Keep it chilled. Thank you.” ‘
HAHA
Reading this, I just thought of Patsy in AbFab when she has to present a daytime TV show.
“Umm, you can never have enough hats, gloves and shoes…cheers, yeah, thanks a lot.”
…
“Sorry Patsy but even Amanda De Cadanet would remember the word ACCESSORIES…”

don’t be so down on yourself – you’re great to listen to, very sincere and candid and gentle, and interesting… anyway, the peace out bit could be a very obscure quote from garden state. it’s all good susie.
Bah! That’s why I’d borrow ‘Stay classy, San Diego’ if I ever have to sign off on video.
Seriously though, that was a great production and you didn’t ruin it with what was obviously an off the cuff sayonara. Real is usually preferable to slick (though I get the cringe factor for anything that comes out of oneself. I’ve been sounding like Octomom on our home videos – now how offputting is that??) You’re lovely.
Hee hee, it’s like you’re yourself throughout the video then get possessed by someone else at the end…hee hee, but still cute 😉
We all do silly stuff like that anyways, just not always on camera! But this is something I would be likely to do too…freeze up and just say something totally random. High five for being able to laugh at yourself!
Aww, I think the “Peace out, keep it chilled” was cute… like you had no idea what to say, but then you come up with this very sincere “Thank you!” at the end (which is really the most memorable bit).
pish! Just claim you were being ironical with the “Peace out”. No worries!
HAHA aw bless you! Judging from the comments no-one’s holding your sign-off against you so stop worrying! I found it very entertaining (and not just for the wrong reasons!)
just keep it chilled, yea?
Oh dear you’re just being too hard on yourself 😛 The video is really well produced/put together and we all know that you wouldn’t say “keep it chilled” 100% straight faced! Anyway, with that calming music in the background, I feel pretty ready to keep chilled and peaceful anyway…
Great post, nice to hear your voice for once & you talking about the start-up of style bubble. You were solely responsible for inspiring me to set up my own – I was here since the days of your hand-obscuring-face mirror photos 😉
Peace out!
geisha xx
What a great video! You look amazing, and so unfazed by the hubbub around you! What a professional!
Your ‘peace out’ bit wasn’t nearly as cringe as I thought it would be.. You totally owned the phrase! Haha.
x
Susie, HUSH! You are articulate and charming and I want more than ever to take you out for a beer. Seriously.
it’s horrible hearing yourself but you have a reeeally nice voice x
PS hi, i’m a massive creep
I really enjoyed the video & thought what you had to say was intelligent, informed, & generally impressive all around. The peace-out bit was a little odd, but if you hadn’t called it out I probably wouldn’t have batted an eye. I’m a Californian, though. 😉 (For the record, I’ve never used the term “peace out”).
lovely!
http://www.cashmereflowers.blogspot.com/
I’m Californian too and have never said “peace out” but I think I’m going to start, like today! This will come off sounding stupid, but I love your command of the English language in both written and spoken form. Keep up the good work, I’m enjoying it.
i find your brit accent SUPER cute and ear-catching 🙂
i go to a british intl school but most of the teachers’ accents are no near yours !
Just wondering… did Joyce give you the option of having an English or Cantonese interview? Considering it’s based in HK, and to be honest… only half of the population really knows English..
Ah noo you came across really well! And the outfits all looked so good on you and your height! So jealous being the average 5ft3 stumpy chinese lol. Joyce stock looks amazing, I’ve never paid much attention to them when shopping in HK but looks like i was missing out!
Haha, I love this! To be honest Susie, the “peace out” thing only made you seem more endearing. It’s easy to try and be perfect when doing things like this, but I kind of love that you were a bit goofy at the end. We all do things like that, and it’s nice to see you do too!
You looked lovely in the video by the way. All those clothes…ahh, I would love to play around in your wardrobe!
Clare x
Nice to hear your voice and I love the ending
edenly jewellery blog
Susie!! I think I saw you at Boots in Piccadilly Circus today… if it was you, you seemed to be frantically shopping for things!
you’re fantatsitc on video, i’d personally love to see more!
I think you look and sounded amazing. (;
I’m one jealous chick.
Wonderful video, would love to you speak in Cantonese or in mandarin, are you fluent either both?
Pearl: They asked me to speak in English… the projects that Joyce engage in are normally English-based and whilst it’s a HK store, has a very international outlook I guess…
Kit: I did do a terrible cantonese interview with Apple Daily in HK… think you need to access the paywall though to see it. I speak Cantonese fluently and Mandarin… poorly…
More videos Susie!
Keep em’ coming!

HAHAHaHAHAHAH well good on you for having the humility to post it and not hope that no one watches the video. We all have moments where are mouths spew something less than desirable….and not all of us can have that gift of sounding so intelligently blase as bourdain…..
peace out susie & stay chill.
V
you thinking ‘this is going well.. oh no here it comes word vomit!’
well I think we can forgive you for this. 🙂
http://aforteforfashion.blogspot.com
You are only too cute!
Love the video!
How funny. Too hard on yourself, as always. It was rather odd to hear you, though, as your writing “voice” sounds quite different in my head than your actual voice.
It’s clear at the end there that you had no idea what to say. It’s cute and charming. Stop hating. =p
Haha, it’s nice to put a voice to the face. As weird as it sounds every time I read the blog I try to imagine it’s you talking, but I’m not used to Brit accents! They’re so much nicer than our own. We sound far more moronic when we as Americans say “Peace out. Keep it chilled, and thank you” than you ever could. And just to mention it, as you would say, I could ‘wax lyrical’ about your blog, but I won’t here. Anyhoo, you’re lovely, and please continue with the amazingness! ^_^
you are my hero!
that’s just the sort of stupid thing i’d do!
why, o why!
xx
you just come across even more lovely when you speak, you look lovely, how amazing to have had the opportunity to wear all those gorgeous garments, you do sound very different to what i expected but lovely lovely lovely, xxx
didnt realise how posh you were!
dont know what accent i expected but that was a surprise! not in a bad way though…..keep it up !
judging by the clip, you are so sweet and down to earth, i wouldn’t worry about those last few lines at all, i think they add something extra to it 🙂
I thought the video was fantastic and your voice was lovely, even the last bit with the “peace out, keep it chilled and thank you.” I’m pretty sure everyone hates the sound of their own voice when they listen to a recording, so don’t fret too much!
Peace out! Hee.
it’s the first time i hear you speak! and i really like your voice! not too strong a british accent! i’ve always love reading your blog. keep it going!
