Only Four…Plus More

>> Like I said, I've been dispatching the other half to press days whilst I'm marooned in Manhattan (actually that's a lie…. I made it out to Flushing and I came back with lips smacking of awesome chilli oil….) and whilst I can't wax lyrical too much because physically touching something always brings a completely different sensory experience, I can still feel mumurs of heart palpitations… even 3,000 miles away.  It was Arcadia's A/W 10-11 press day yesterday and whilst I'm not allowed to post a floodgate of images from Topshop's own collection like I would normally do, and i guess without having been physically there, it makes even more sense to post these small tidbits…

Tight Encrustations – Sparse bejewelling is no fun so Topshop have tightly packed them in instead into this bag and flats… I'm also into the knitted bandeau belt on the left that would be great over coats…

The spikes on this leather jacket are like a toned down version of the Ashish for Topshop range but what softens it more is the cloudy grey shade as well as the clusters of jewels… I like how the spikes are jostling with the jewels in a hardware fight… I haven't touched the bustier and matching skirt underneath but I spy… mottled/cracked rusty leather that has also been pleated in the skirt???  Say it IS so…

Everyone else has been pumping out these sort of boots but I feel like for Topshop, it's sort of an evolution that began with those Emma Cook creeper boots and season after season, their chunky ankle boots gets a revamp…

I can't quite see what size this is but I should think it's a lunchbox type size… I wonder if the finishings are real leather because if they are, then I'll snap this up for swinging around, packed with a Lipton's ice tea, a packet of crisps and not much else…

The countrification continues on from the tweed into these leather elbow patches…

Another one to add to the furry listings… I love that the blazer fastens with buckles as opposed to buttons…

Alright…pictures of Topshop A/W 10-11 collections limit exceeded.  I'm hoping to post more but I'll adhere to the rules for now… here's Dorothy Perkins getting furry and wooly… they too have been pumping out the sheepskinned, chunky boot variations…

I keep an eye out at Wallis sometimes for standout pieces…. this checked cape coats in beige tones looks like one of them…

But back to Toppers again… as I still can't quite get over how DARN good the Topshop Unique

collection was and actually, after speaking to more people about it, the reaction seems to always be "Wow, it's ACTUALLY bloody good!", as in, it ACTUALLY stands up as a collection against other mid-priced, Marc by MJ-type ready-to-wear level.  No doubt, the prices of the heavy coats, the shearling, the furry stuff will reflect this but then again, I'll probably be in the frame of mind where I'm not buying pieces as simply 'Topshop'.  Me thinks Unique has come of age with this collection even though in spirit, it's actually more irreverant than ever…

And I'll re-assert… these animal hats courtesy of Emma Cook ARE going into production… now for the choice, badger, fox or rabbit?

DSC_0649

I like this idea of the furry shoulder harness, giving a softer dimension to the harness universe… even better if it somehow connects to the fleecy backpack…

I like that someone in the design team ditched 'tasteful' in favour of 'fun' and applied a 'more is more' attitude to these shoes.  One fluff of fur is just not enough, let's add more!  More straps!  Chunkier!  Texture!  Wheeeeeeeeee!

  1. i don’t know about this shoe trend, i just don’t get it.
i’m way into countrification though (leather patches on chunky knits, yay!).
and, i’m super excited about the return of backpacks!
are the animal hats faux fur? hope so!!

  2. i loved this unique collection so much, can’t wait to get my hands on it! also looks like dotty p’s are upping their game.

  3. Ooooooh man this is so exciting! I’m crushing hard on the coat with (fake, yes?) fur panels and buckles.

  4. I was already really into this Topshop collection but these photos make me appreciate it even more. I know I would look silly wearing one of those hats but I can’t help wanting one, are the ones with the horns also going into production?

  5. I like everything, but isn’t it supposed to be summer soon!? I want shorts and no more furry!
Or do you live in Australia or something? (I’m from Holland)

  6. some of the unique stuff kinda remind me of acne a/w, but overall still a really great collection! i WANT that pink jacket with spiked shoulders.

  7. For those wondering about the fur…I’m 99% sure it’s all fake…. the real stuff would cost a fortune to retail….
M.: These are the autumn winter 2010-11 collections so these won’t go into stores until around August/September time… so they’re an advanced preview of the coming collections…

  8. So much to be excited about, especially the shoes! And those hats are amazing, I can’t believe they are going into production. The badger will be mine!

  9. GORGEOUS furry stuff…!
Wouldn’t mind having those in my closet for next winter-yum!

  11. I quite like that studded jacket! It’s kind of of different because of the light colour and jewels. 🙂

  12. i loved everything
    but these boots…
seriously, looks like someone killed an animal and it got stucked on it…

  13. Oh my goodness gracious me, I am IN LOVE WITH EVERY SINGLE THING. I need an animal hat.
