>> Some of you may have noticed that I've been blogging bits and bobs on the It's My Time site, United Colors of Benetton's recent project to find its models for the A/W 10-11 campaign that will be shot by Josh Olins. It ran for a month and has finally come to a close with over 60,000 entries and the 100 finalists have been selected. Oh wells… none of my picks made it to the final list which just shows how subjective the parameters are for 'originality'.
What with the campaign colliding with fashion week, unfortunately I couldn't spend a few hours everyday (that's how long it takes…) sifting through the swamp of entries. If I'm honest, there seemed to be a lot of opportunist entries as one might expect which made the ones that stood out for me shine out even more I guess. As a blogger who has no qualms about putting my image out there (duh…), it's been interesting to see the sheer variety of people and the way they portray themselves through their imagery and how other people respond to that. It'll be even more interesting to see who the final final campaign winners will be and even more eager to see how Josh Olins will deal with them…
Thinking about my past two years at Dazed, of course Olins' work has played more than its visual part, as the photographer of two of my favourite Dazed covers and editorials during my time there…
Dazed February 2010
Dazed April 2009
I love both of those covers, I think the second one and the editorial that went with it were just sublime. The colours and excess of jewellery are amazing.
Love the attitude in some of the pictures above.

Oh my God! I couldn’t breathe when I saw that first cover! Genius, genius, genius.Beating myself up over not noticing it when it was out in stores…
This is similar to what American Apparel did, with finding the best bum in the world. Which really just turned into a platform to host mild pornographic material to those that are excited about being brushed against on the tube…hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm
the february is far better that the april one. it’s just the magic of viktor&rolf!

Did anyone see the Richard Linklater early 90s film Slacker? The girl with the toothbrush in her mouth and orange hat reminds me of the androgynous person (I still don’t know whether it was a girl or guy) who was on the cover of the video box and whose character walked around with one of Madonna’s *ahem* ‘hairs’ in a jar.
There are some photos I really like and then there are typical ‘I’m too cool for you’ shots that ….blah.
February Dazed…breathtaking (Appetite for Deconstruction – love that!)
That second editorial is so brilliant. I haven’t been following the United Colors of Benetton project but I’m curious, have any well-known faces/bloggers made it into the 100 finalists?
“…During my time there.”
Are you leaving Dazed? 😮
Love the editorial. x
