>> And now for something a lot lighter, less intense but equally riveting…
I know I'm getting a bit film happy today but surprisingly, more than one fashion film has come out from the menswear shows that do more than just be broody ad campaigns-in-the-making. Curiously, this David Shrigley for Pringle of Scotland video doesn't really have any connection with the A/W 10-11 collection which the film preceded at the show in Milan. Oh, and the little factor of the illustrator Shrigley taking a fair bit of artistic license with making a film for Pringle might have something to do with the lines that this film produces…which must be delivered exactly how the voiceover Bridget McCann has done…
"Some call them sweaters. Some call them jumpers. I call them jumpers."
"The thing you have to remember about Scotland is that it rains a lot. It rains all the time."
"Our jumpers are made from wool. Some of the wool are from lambs and some are from goats."
"Manky wool is no good to us."
"But nowadays, we make about 700 billion jumpers and cardigans a day. And if an old lady tried to make that many today, her hands would catch fire and she'd die."
"The models are horribly skinny like skeletons. I don't know why they have to be so thin. Personally I'd like to see a normal shaped lassie with a big bottom and nice pair of hooters."
"They won't let him (Gerald) model them. Because he's only got one eye and is an alcoholic."
"Probably they (competitors) should be banned from making jumpers and they can just make socks. Because they're crap."
I love jumpers too! They’re just comfiest! Especially on fat/ill/cold days…hehe

Oh my gosh, that was fantastic. I giggled the entire time. Thanks for posting it. I love jumpers too…and have recently come across a stash of really nice wool ones in thrift stores so I appreciated it even more than usual.
ah I really like this, I’ve always liked David Shrigley. I got introduced to him through my photography class, he has some really good but hilarious photos
After 6 years living in Glasgow I can testify to the constant rain.
“They can just make socks.” Ha!

This is too funny – thanks for sharing x
Love it!
So funny ‘manky wool’!!!
I liked the “straight” “gay” gauge as part of the design process, in fact that whole imaginary “design” program part was amazing!
the colors look great
haha! as a scot this made me laugh and i could also relate quite strongly…

I fucking love this. This is my kind of marketing!
Hahahah this is so great! I’ve got to agree with the models, a jumper definitely hangs better off a bunch of curves.
Brilliant film!!
So funny!

That’s really funny! But her accent just doesn’t seem to match the dialogue. She sounds quite posh and I can’t imagine her using ‘manky’ very often! But it does indeed rain here ALOT!
“The thing you have to remember about Scotland is that it rains a lot. It rains all the time.”
It’s not just Scotland…

Duck
This is probably the cleanest work of Shrigley’s.. but then the animation was done by somebody else.
Aahh lovely Pringle!
Duck, you’re right…. !
Queen M: Me thinks they deliberately toned down the accent to ensure that international show-goers in Milan would be able to understand what she was saying….!
i had already clicked away from my igoogle this morning when “i heart jumpers” caught my eye. i feverishly hit the back button on my browser to click on the story! needless to say, i i was not thinking of the same type of jumper! but, i love pringle of scotland, i love wool, and i love jumpers *and* sweaters.
hilaaarious! what an unusual way to start a show. though not ultimately lending their jumpers the all important air of, err, elitism? very funny.
