Butter Me Up

My search for leather clothes that don't automatically equate to being solely tough or hard continues into spring is a continuing not-so-uphill struggle.  In fact, it's set to be a smooth sailing course as everyone from COS to Topshop to leather peeps Swagga and Soul to the covetable Celine have all got softie softie leather options that take the material beyond biker jackets and too-tight trousers.

This is a work in progress of-the-moment tracker of my soft leather accumulation that of course is no where near where I want it to be but is nonetheless keeping my nose doused in that very intoxicating smell (sorry veggies… I have a thing for sniffing meat by-products…and raw meat for that matter…).

This Oasis jacket is I think on sale on the website (or is that the grey version) and yes, it is biker and sticking to all those leather-type conventions but I do like how the blue of the jacket reminds me of a shade of denim and makes it slightly unexpected.

Swagga and Soul's Chloe trousers are quite literally like leather tracksuit bottoms because of the fit and the lining.

Finally there's this Louise Gray S/S 10 leather and suede bustier that I'll be wearing over sheer tees and ruffled skirts for sure…

I love the scribblings inside the bustier which almost makes me want to rip out the label and wear it inside out…

Like I said though, it's an ongoing quest that should hopefully see pliable leather in peaches and cream flooding into my wardrobe…

  1. Extra soft leather is the best. I used to think that leather pants had to be tight fitting to look good, but that’s because all I’d seen were horribly cut and too stiff loose leather pants. I love how the pants you are wearing look comfortable and fall like fabric, and I completely prefer them to tight leather pants, which I feel don’t suit me anyway. The blue on the leather jacket is wonderful too.

  2. Thank goodness that someone called out the edgy leather look that has been on everyone lately. Not that that tough chick leather vibe isn’t beautiful, it is. I just think is was time that it got less monotone

  3. Beautiful! There are not words to describe you style susie. If I say edgy is sounds too hard, to tough, if I say quirky it sounds too goofy and weird, if I say unique it sounds too crazy, too wacky but you are not ‘too’ anything and most importantly of all you are not too similar to everyone else! You are just the right amount of everything and somehow you manage to create something amazing!
I absolutly love this outfit and your hat is such a gorgeous individual addition to such a lovely outfit!
I have copied your lovely plaid look over at my blog sorry! http://inthebedroommirror.blogspot.com/2010/01/playing-in-plaid.html
    Same time tommorrow!

  4. Adore the trousers. I actually let out a longing sigh!
They look more flattering on a person than the product pics on website, really beautiful on you!

  5. I’ma follow your meat-sniffing nose, because it’s a heck of a lot easier than searching these things out myself.. You’re a gift to the lazy leather lover!

  6. perfection. And I, too, am in love with the smell of leathers. I have an obsession with unfinished leather bags for just this reason- my favorite being one my man has dubbed “the beef jerky bag” because….clearly, it smells JUST like beef jerky. The olfactory benefit is half the fun.
    xo

  7. The jacket so-so, no actually it’s very cool, but what really gets me are the trousers – so chic! (btw, I’ve got a cream leather jacket, maybe I should write a post about it, since I’m in the habit of quoting you anyway). Sabine x

  8. This is an amazing outfit!
I love your jacket, very wang-ish.

  9. I totally agree, bring on the soft leather like it’s been tumbled in a dryer and then beaten on the sidewalk! I bought a soft, suede fringey, mushroom colour coat that needs slightly warmer weather, can’t wait…

  10. i love everything you wearing……. i like the two color in the leather jacket, plus the pants…fantastic. i love the small corset……….i need everything you wearing………….ohhh… cute hat

  11. what a fantastic outfit, you’ve covered so many different styles but somehow it all works together, I especially adore the boater hat and the viv westwood platforms. very cute.

  12. I’ve got a massive, reversible red leather cape that my French grandmother gave me from the 60s. On one side it’s just the bright red leather, on the other it’s plaid flannel. Sounds hideous, I know, but I love it! The plaid is surprisingly very grungy, and it’s very textuall interesting to wear with that peep of red from the interior.

  13. Those are the coolest leather pants I’ve seen in a long time–love the cut; I wasn’t even sure they were leather when I first saw the photo, and I love that you’ve rolled the leg.
I know what you mean about the smell of leather; I’ve bought vintage purses just because the leather smelled so good.

  14. You seem to have collected a lot of little corsets, I love them all, I don’t have enough of them in my closet but good ones are hard to come by! Especially around the breast area they are so ill fitting for me. I think corsets always look good on people with extremely narrow shoulders which you have!
    Great leather jacket too.

  15. I love the outfit, though I’m not sure about the blue ribbon straps, maby more a more natural colour would go better with the corset top.
Otherwise the leather jacket is great!

  16. Today, concern for a balanced diet and fat-free butter has relegated to the background. I love the butter. thank you guys this blog is very nice.
