Old Blue Lastings…

>> More snappy snappy snaps here that are rather diminished in quality because I took them on a disposable camera as opposed to the slightly more pro Nikon L-35 (just in case camera buffs wanted to know what was used to take that shot of me in front of some glorious red brick…).

Last Sunday on the Bank Holiday weekend, at the Old Blue Last, I was reminded of two things…

… that great accessories can still be found in Camden as demonstrated by these tights and wrist adornments worn by Leanne…

… sadly I need to first get over my Camden hangover… because I was one of those teens that hung out in Camden in a bid to seek vintage clothes, underage drinking and errr… *air quotes* alternative vibes… and then as soon as I hit 18, I found decent vintage elsewhere, could legally drink and was too busy studying to even consider the "alternative" question…

…the second thing that I got a huge walloping reminder of was courtesy of this beautiful feathered cape sewn and attached onto a dress, worn by Sam, the lead singer of Teenagers in Tokyo, the band we were seeing on Sunday…

…sadly I couldn't quite capture the amazingness of the piece with my pics. The feathers were sewn on as real red, white and yellow feathers and formed a top layer to a bottom layer of feather shaped black fabric pieces that were then sewn on to a bat-wing dress.  Basically, it was a hugely pertinent reminder that I need to get all seven of my half-baked DIY projects up and running and as soon as fashion week month is over, I have banished myself to weekend hibernation with nothing but a radiator, Radio 4 and my inner creative rage.

…happily (I wasn't about to do a post with TWO sentences beginning with the word 'Sadly…') I've got a lot of the materials sitting here, ready to go, and new friends that have guiding expertise where I have none so one plus the other should equal something update that dusty DIY category with…

  1. It’s my dream to live in London but frustratingly it’s yet to happen (fingers crossed soon soon SOON). So I’m afraid I still get rather overexcited at Camden! If only I could have spent my ‘alternative’ teen years there instead of Oxford..
It’s pretty overwhelming being a country girl in the big smoke.
As a photographer who doesn’t use digital for work I’m REALLY enjoying your film shots! More ‘Bubble Cam’ pics would be interesting, love that first shot.

  2. love your boots. It has to be said that Camden is an experience everyoe has to do. Life would not be life without a chunk of it! I think it’s great you hung out there when you were younger. It may be rubishy vintage and the new stuff is even worse but the pancakes are amazing!!!

    I spy a nice boat shoe…
    Naboonies from DUNIA FASHYON

  4. Love that first picture SO much. Love the shoes, the tights (I have a pair just like them!) and those loafers in the background. AMAZING.

  5. Oh, Camden. It’s a great place to get away from the Topshop/Miss Selfridges/H&M wearing masses. Or at least it was in 2005. HA!

  6. Hi,I’ve been a silent reader of your blog for a long time and you’ve inspired me to attempt to start my own fashion blog.
I’m just wondering how would I be able to bring it up to your level

  8. I actually really like the shots of the band, even though the cape is not crisp/clear. There’s an old feel to them, like they are photo’s from the 80’s.

  9. Could you tell me where did you get those tights?
I am looking for them all day but with no luck!
    P.S. Looove your blog!

  10. Hey guys…. the first two pictures are not of me! They’re of a friend called Leanne…she was the one who bought the tights in Camden….! I don’t know where to find them though online…. might be a Camden only thing….
The shoes are a YSL knock-off…from TK Maxx I believe….!

  11. Camden has grown up a lot I think. 2 years ago it was exactly how you described it but it has a different air about it now making a much more enjoyable place. They also have a really great restaurant that serves the best paella in London! 😀
