Minna’s Masks

This came as a bit of a shock when it landed in my inbox.  Minna Parikka, creator of cute patent shoes with a slightly retro vibe and prim and pretty knitwear has gone and used broken up shoe parts to make these fetish masks.   I was actually going to post a heads up of her collection of paint-dripped shoes and booties and trompe l'oeil knitwear but for some reason hesitated, thinking it was all a leeeetle bit too pretty pretty for my currently haphazard, slap-dash taste.  Suddenly though, a few S&M-type masks made with leftover patent shoe bits perk me up… and I'm not entirely sure why.  Perhaps it is the way my preconceptions of a brand like Minna Parikka has been somewhat overturned… they also remind me of the femme version of Jaiden rVa James' masks.

P.S. I didn't realise Minna Parikka had opened up an e-shop selling all her classic designs and newer shoe types…

  1. Those are INCREDIBLE. I love how resourceful they are, and when you know that they’re recycled from her shoes, you can absolutely see the silhouettes and shapes in them…
I absolutely love the pink one…

  2. I was shocked too! I was expecting something twee that I could show the readers at WishWishWish..but i’m not sure how they’d react to fetish masks.
I must say I love the cat style one with the scalloped edges..mm!

  3. These are completely amazing, I’ve never been a big fan of Minna Parikka shoes, not to fond of the retro vibe. But these are insane and very tongue-in-cheek. Great to see designers branching out to areas that are completely unexpected!

  4. hmm, a couple of those masks look like really bad versions of the fleet ilya masks…

  5. the first is excellent: it looks like to some drawing I made twenty years
    ago (named “ferrari erotical mask”)

    Sincerely
