Fine Knitty Knit

I got an upgraded reminder formative 'hanging out in Camden' years when I received this knitted skirt from Cooperative Designs.  At the Camden branch of Rokit, I went through a specific phase of buying up their stretchy knitted boob tube tops that I used to layer over t-shirts.  What I should have realised at the time was though that my fried eggs chest wasn't really  made for wearing boob tubes no matter how many "We Must We Must Increase Our Busts" exercises I did.  I think I may have persisted because they came in so many colours and were the most affordable things in Rokit at the time along with vintage slip dresses and skirts (not really the case anymore sadly…).

This skirt though has some echoes of those knitted boob tubes and is most definitely an upgrade given that the tube is longer, a little more forgiving and doesn't highlight my lack of boobage. It's made with an intriguing technique which I haven't really seen… here comes the knitted science… it's a "fine gauge fairisle knit, vertical stripes of lambswool, with vertical stripes of lycra which make it pull in"… those are Annalisa Dunn of Cooperative Designs' words, not mine… I love how the black shows through ever so subtly… and if I do feel like standing with legs astride, the knit shows through even more.

Oh and these holey nude tights that I got from Emilio Cavallini are another Camden regression moment… again, upgraded because I think the last time I bought holey tights from Camden, they ripped as soon as I pulled them on…

  1. i dont think boob tubes suited anyone really….it was the other way around for me…too busty i looked like a playboy bunny….but this skirt is lovely and yes quite reminiscent of the tube but i assume more forgiving!

  2. I avoided boob tubes like the plague back in the day but I seem to have acquired one recently from a designer friend. I thought Zang Toi was sending me a “top” not a “tube”!

  3. I’m not such a huge fan of boob tubes but I do love tight skirts, and that one is amazing, esp. with the tights and shoes!

  4. i GUESS i understand why you haven’t included a full shot. I loved knitted dresses, they’re beautiful. & love your whole outfit, stunning!

  5. Wow, that IS and interestsing knit… I’ve never seen anything like it! Looks like this skirt will be perfect for layering in the winter. Can’t wait to see what you come up with!
ps- be grateful for the lack of boobage. Trust me, me grateful…

By the way, are you going to any of the Fashion’s Night Out events? I’m so excited about tonight at Browns; loads of designers like Roksanda and Henry Holland and Jonathan Saunders are taking over the store, on the tills, dj-ing, styling, and I’m on meet-and-greet-and-feed-designers-duty! Woop!
