I was hesitant about blogging about the Beth Ditto for Evans range not because it wasn't interesting. It is an odd collab on face value that only makes real sense when you see the clothes. I had reservations only because the blog isn't really about informing about everything that is out there and I'm not about to try and delve into a question as tetchy and murky as the one that Evans and Beth Ditto are trying to challenge; do truly fashionable clothes exist for plus-size women? I'm not about to get on a soapbox to start extolling this groundbreaking collaboration as a saviour of sorts for plus size women in the UK… where to begin, where does it end… not questions I want to be answering…
However, I was very kindly invited to a bloggers' preview of the collection and in selfish endeavours, I was curious to know whether there would be anything that took my fancy and so, rather than analysing the strength of the collection, I can only point out the things that took my personal fancy. Sensible, overall collection overview you ain't gonna get…. sorry, I'll leave that to pros like Disneyrollergirl. Selfish wants that I actually will consider buying…yes….
P.S. On an unrelated note, getting as far away from said issues and tissues… I wore the burnt bra out under a grey mesh tee, opening up some opportunities for the frazzled undergarment… all bloggers were given a suede studded slouchy bag from the range that became a protection unit for the camera as I keep on losing lens caps…
Roses with a touch of spray paint at the presentation… trying to practise my focusing skills here…
Creeper flats that are basically the perfect replacement for when my white ones fall apart…
A waxed cotton biker jacket that in a size UK16/18 is gives the perfect amount of drape on a UK8-10…
As with a lot of high street A/W 09 collections, detailing, embellishments have been ramped up to the high so this cobweb jumper instead of having a print has chains running along the cobweb lines… again, an oversized piece that isn't realy size specific…
I love how you saw the collection as non-size specific. I never thought of looking at plus-size clothing that way, only tempted by shoes and accessories. I must give some collections a shot now!
I think this is wrong. I was reading yesterday a blog if someone plus size, and she was actually afraid this would happen, they would have to fight for the clothes with the skinny people that want to achieve the “drapping” effect, and that defeats the purpose of the collection.
A lot of Plus size people won’t get to buy the collection because people like me and you Susie don’t mind clothing being oversize. I think people need to take a step back once and while, it’s not like Plus size people can do the same thing with the average sized collaborations.
Love your roses shot! 🙂 The waxed jacket sounds promising as a drapey reincarnated version…
See…this is why i hesitated in posting…. this is in fact NOT my territory at all yet I glimpsed at it and found something interesting…as it happens, I won’t be buying anything from the collection precisely because of your point Una…. but am blogging about it from the perspective of an outsider who isn’t really supposed to be getting in on the action and because they were kind enough to let me look at it beforehand…. like a diabetic blogging about sweets?
i think maybe – just maybe – there are some people out there that read susie’s blog, like her sense of fashion, but are overweight. if so, then susie made a good thing: she’s informing some of her readers which pieces she liked.
i dunno, sometimes i feel people just see complication in the most innocent affairs…
I want those creeper flats!
Believe me, I mean this in the spirit of a friendly inquiry, but why are these not questions you want to be answering?
Ames: It’s because it’s not a field of clothing that I have any expertise in so don’t want to start mouthing off about something I know nothing about…
Just in case you are wondering, yes, there are regular Susie Bubble readers who are plus size. So thank you.
Love that cowweb sweater!
*raising both hands!* Fat regular Style Bubble reader over here! I have no problem at all with Susie posting about the line and really don’t fear that smaller people will buy it up in their droves and cause a shortage for the people that the range is intended for. Loose baggy clothing is all over the high street so I can’t see all the size 10 people stampeding their way to Evans.
Oh, and I MUST have those creeper shoes!
but you have experience with spandex body suits? what?
