For a girl who used to declare that gold was icky (I went through a very stubborn phase of refusing to wear any jewellery that was gold and only going for silver…), I seem to have accumulated a lot of it of late – specifically, black shiny surfaces plated with gold as illustrated above in the form of the Marios Schwab/Husam el Odeh for Topshop cigarette case, Miu Miu clutch and Lara Bohinc wallet.

So I guess I shouldn't be too surprised that at the Modus press day, I fell head first for this Bally cut-out cigarette case and thigh high peeptoe (a shoe oxymoron, no?) boots with lattice metalwork around the heels from the new A/W 09 collection, creatively directed by Brian Atwood.  Combine all of the above and the pieces below and you really would be blinded… I would hope it's the good kind of blindin'….

  1. Wow the heel on those boots is amazing. You might look as though you had looted the crown jewels and/or robbed a bank if you wore all of the above at the same time, but yes, it would be a good kind of blinding.

  2. I HAVE ALSO CHANGED MY MIND ABOUT GOLD LATELY. I MUST SAY THAT DESIGNERS HAVE PRESENTED IT TOO ME IN SO MANY INTERESTED WAYS THAT KNOW I AM CRAVING MANY PIECES WITH IT. I MUST SAY THOSE BOOTS CAN BE ADDED TO THE LIST…
    DID U GET THEM?

  3. The cigarette case is amazing, as are the shoes. I went through a similar silver phase my entire life and now crave everything gold.

  4. I love the shoes! Yes, gold does a good sort of blinding…I think a tinge of gold in dark outfits are awesome!

  5. I think everyone goes through a “gold-hating” phase. Those shoes and case are amazing, the cutout detail is exquisite. You’re on quite the cutout rampage!

  6. I used to religiously hate gold anything until about 3 years ago when something just sort of clicked and I realized how silly I’d been for all that time!
I also used to (sort-of) hate Swarovski encrusted things until last night when I went to a Vogue.com event at the Crystallized store and saw all of the amazing ‘Runway Rocks’ creations.

  7. I’m all for the cigarette case even as a non smoker – yes isn’t is funny how gold has returned with avengence. I too was sworn off it for years but for the last 4 seasons have added soemthing bit by bit and it always works.

  8. I confess, I hated gold before. I used to be a silver/platinum girl… but I must say, I have been warming up to gold these past few months. I need that bag!!

  9. i think i’m having the silver phase now. no trace of gold on me. my aunts wanted to buy me a gold pendant some time ago (!) but no… i told them i only wear silver. and i won’t buy a bag just because it has a hint of gold in the hardware. sadly i’m still quite stuck in this phase. i’ll just admire gold on other people for now. it looks good on them! just… not me.. hahahah

  10. great post! I’m always flip-flopping between gold or silver myself. I’ve got piles of both sitting on top of my dresser. Glad you have started warming up to it.

  11. definitely a good kind of blinding.
the heel reminds me of gothic churches and their lacy stonework.

  12. Susie!
This might possibly be the most pikey-ish thing I have ever done… but would you ever consider selling your Topshop cigarette case?

Ps. You looked fab at the Nokia Young Fashion Designer awards in Dub recently… as always!

  13. I’m pretty conflicted about those boots – I LOVE (And I don’t do gold either – silver and pewter ALL the way!) the heel and the glint of gold down the platform soul but I think they should be sandals not boots..
I dunno though, maybe on people they look amazing!
The cigarette case is gorgeous too

  14. I went through the same phase with gold, for at least 4 years, but now it’s all I wear. I have a darker complexion and realized how much better it looks on me.
