A quick glance over Saga Furs website and on their homepage, they round-up all all of the designers using fur in their A/W 09 and the number is A LOT… some use it better than others I might add. The F word has been skirted around on the blog quite gently. It has to be said I don't own any that isn't vintage but if truth be told, in some cases I am thoroughly swayed by the aesthetic use of it. There's fur that is thrown about in a needlessly decadent away without any thought process behind it and then there's fur that initiates a real "Ooooh…that's intriguing…" feeling. I'm in favour of those that initiate that feeling. I'm still skirting around the issue because this isn't the forum to discuss it and I've always taken a on-the-fence stance which is my choice.
So whilst still skirting, I'd like to gingerly put my hand up and say that I loved the way Natalia Brilli used fur in her A/W 09 collection…. working with Saga Furs and augmenting her collection with the stuff, mostly in black, she added fur to accessories where you least expect it… on a biker's helmet…
…forming a furry hat on top of a leather covered skull that opens up to make a trinket box…
…as a shoulder epaulet that can attach onto jackets/shirts with a brooch pin//a neck warmer with Brilli's signature leather beads attached…
…then used in abundance in a unexpectedly BIG slouchy bag . Without meaning to sound like a Cruella di Ville, I'm quite drawn to the taupe…
But back to leath-A (prounouned Stella "Project Runway" Zotis style…was it odd that I shrieked a little when I saw her in New York?)… a material with which Natalia Brilli is well acquainted with. The thing that is comforting about her collections is that even with the changes in inspirations (prehistoric is where Brilli headed for this season…), there is that continuity in her collections that bodes well for an accessory brand that people will know and love, season after season. Of course, with added experimentation in materials and techniques, Brilli has extra weapons at her side to juz up her collections every season.
Knotted leather bunches continue but in pewter distressed leather…
Fringe gets a look-in with this neckpiece as well draped beautifully on a bag which I didn't snap properly on my camera…
With the collection looking towards prehistoric elements, Brilli returns to her previous motif of studding but puts them on these shoulder pads that can oh yes, will be mine… to add onto metallic blazers and the like…
The palette of course alters again whilst retaining the same recognisable Brilli language in jewellery… the leather covered chains and beads, the Nolex etc… taupe, burnished silver and turquoise blue are my personal favourites…
There's even more continuity in Natalia Brilli's menswear collection which is fast gaining cult status and as always the motifs are rather more literal. Like I said before, heaps of GIFTING options…
The cat is out of the bag…a black leather tote that can be turned into a rucksack with a beautifully embossed front panel… this will be my next "Buying-for-the-boyf-and-subsequently-stealing-it-from-him" item.
Wow I would so wear that fur helmet! I love it!!!!! I totally agree with you on using fur for innovative things. I hate ugly things made out of fur!

Her leather work is AMAZING…the shoulder pads are definitely a good look.
And the fur helmet is kind of dope…
Everything is beautiful beautiful beautiful! I like the stamped effect of the accessories especially the rucksack. Slouchy!

I’ve been trying to think up words, or even sounds that would equal my thoughts on this collection. Or maybe I should just state that my JAW DROPPED LOOKING AT THE PICTURES.
Perfection, really.
LOVELOVELOVE HER!
(Big surprise, right? Haha)
Amazing post, Susie!
The jewelry is absolutuely awesome. On a side note I just wanted to confess that I have been stalking Susie Bubble since the early stylediary days. You are quite an inspiration.

I hate how people lecture you on fur.
I don’t wear any fur and I would never buy any (though I also think vintage is OK because it wasn’t a waste, IMHO) and I can see both sides but it’s like smoking. People know it’s bad, but if they like it, they like it. No need for anyone to judge. I feel like if people are anti-fur, good for them! Keep being that way but don’t think you can change other people to suit your views.
Yadda yadda. I’m glad you are brave enough to admit it. And don’t worry, no one here will throw red paint on you!
the fur bag looks like a dead animal’s corpse
I have a Brilli leather bracelet which is quite chunky, love it.
I don’t have an issue with people wearing fur, so long as they are aware of how the animals are treated & whether the animal is consumed in a productive fashion.
However; while everybody strums the fur banjo, there are far greater cultural, economic & socialist issues with the knowledge of & practice in slaughtering animals for leather, wool & the consumption of food.
Yet, that never hits the headlines because it’s a standardised & generic way of life for millions. As it’s an institutional impossibility worldwide from cultural & economic perspectives.
Increased transparency of operations is a must though, for all consumption processes, not just fur production.
anyway, yawn. Natalie Brilli, genius.
It‘s very good clothes
CHUBACA! hehe…heh…heh…..but the jewelry is amazing!! -_-
especially the bracelets and watches.
The big slouchy furry bag is SO lush!!!
Excellent “skirting”. Loved your write-up and photos. xo
THOSE SHOULDER PADS ARE PURE EXUBERANCE. ABSOLUTE.
yes- i saw stella (in the flesh- lethuh and all)
at the bust craftacular! but it looked like she wanted eat small midget children like me so i admired from a distance
Natalia Brilli can do no wrong. I will never, ever, get over the fact that I didn’t buy the deerhead handbag.
The fur is both primitive, and polished. I am against fur, but this is still beautifuly crafted!
I love this blog, great post as always!
i would love to own a brilli something one of these days. but for now im content to say ive seen her stuff in person.
those leather skulls are incredible. if i had things my way i would have skulls and skeletons everywhere.
I think wearing fur is pretty disgusting! and just looks vulgar!
Did you snap these pictures at a press opening? (Not sure how this works).
Anyway, I really like Brilli’s work. And you’re right, there’s definitely boyfriend gift material in there!
