I had all the intentions of taking my X'mas gift out and about with me today to test it out to see whether I could add a micro-blogging dimension to this blog. I was gifted a LG X110 netbook for Christmas and after finding out I can slip in a simcard in the back to go online anyhere (no more scamming for free wi-fi…) I was geeking out over the micro blogging possibilities – i.e. twenty ickle posts a day on the go a la Twitter (some of you might have noticed that I'm a bit obsessed with Tweeting at the mo… I'm threatening to leave the blog for Tweeting…). So off I went out today into the freezing, snowing (ever so tiny flakes wafting about…) weather with the netbook and a dongle (that word never failes to amuse me) to seek out blogging on the go opps.
(Me at Taiwanese restaurant Leong's Legend looking perplexed and downhearted…at least I had some xiao long bao to console myself with..)
Sadly the dongle was not co-operating and wi-fi opps were even harder to come by and so all the snaps that I had intended to post one by one like a sort of "I snapped this two secs ago.." type thing are just all being bunged onto one post here. Experiment over. Need to a) get a better battery and b) find a better dongle/work out how to slip sim into the netbook. Come fashion week, I'll have it all figured out. For now though a botched up post that was not meant to be…
The gallery just outside Claire de Rouen books was empty and set up as some sort of run down 70s' dentist waiting area….oh and yes, the Tim Ryan skirt is working separately today… with my cheesy spanking white lace-up boots…
The fash magazine selection at Claire de Rouen always supreme of course…
Went to check out EXIT Gallery's "A Fairytale About Fashion" exhibition primarily because I knew Laura Bradley's Fashion Almanac (so glad people were positive about that mag…) was part of the exhibit but found some charming Will Broome illustrations on the staircase. I have a tea towel illustrated by Broome and I'm too scared to use it for actual grimy wiping.
We snaked our way up the stairs through contributions from small mags like Gravure, 032c, Dossier, Acne Paper and Fanzine 137 all curated by Claire de Rouen's magazine buyer Jane Wilson..and came across illustrations by Laura Mackness and polaroids by Chris Brooks…
…photographs by Fletcher & Fletcher and some charming illustrations by Hormazd Narielwalla housed in embroidery hoops…
Then we toodled off to Shop at Maison Bertaux where sadly the paisley patterned doors were of course closed…I'll be intrigued to see whether anyone moves into this sweet basement space next to the cake store…I mourn the loss of Shop@MaisonB…
Then off to Bang Bang where I scored a bona fide bar-gain (more about that tomorrow…) and the boyf got a Material Boy sample rucksack that he got so excited about that he was jogging ahead of me leaving me trailing behind him…
Then at MacCulloch & Wallis I went a ribbon frenzy for a DIY project and got confused by the pricing and new VAT structure…
Marvelling at how cheesily white my boots and my boyf's Vans' trainers are… fresh kicks, fresh kicks… Kanye, can I hang out with ya? // Didn't venture into Selfridges but the Kid Robot window should hopefully be featuring in tonight's dream sequences (been sleeping terribly and slipping in and out of twenty dreams a night…so today should provide enough dream fodder…)
There…long-winded as usual and totally would have worked better as ickle tid-bit posts… will get on the case with the netbook sim thing…
love your outfit! the Rim Ryan skirt is amazing. and good job on the boyf for getting the material boy rucksack! i love material boy.
Looks like you had a great day and I truly love everything of your outfit.
You always seem to have the best of adventures.
I love those white boots.
I hope you get your mobile blogging thing worked out. Think of the possibilities!
Well, maybe it didn’t work out as intended but this is a wonderful post anyways, so no matter. Oh man, do I LOVE LOVE your outfit!
Is that Elyse Sewell on your laptop’s wallpaper? Weird. I read her blog too and remember the picture from some time ago when she was talking about the shoot. Huh..strange internet connections..
Anyway! I’ve been lurking your blog religiously for about a year and this is my first comment! That seems vaguely creepy in my mind but it’s just great!
I like this ‘day in the life of susie’ post. Fun, even if mobile blogging didn’t go according to plan!
ribbon! i have been attaching ribbon to everything lately. even tying a piece to a bag livens up a look…
Someone bought you a LG laptop? lol. I hope that last you okay. I used to work for LG Mobile (well sort of). It’s not really known to build sturdy laptops.. so the dongle takes your sim does it? That’s cool.
It’s good to hear that it’s warming up a little in London. Well 6C is what we get when it’s really cold in Perth. π
Good to see you out and about. When will wee see your ribbon diy thingie?
Those boots! They’re divine.
I like when people do a full day photographic report.
1)your haircut is divine!
2)your coat looks particularly warm
is that white bag your laptop bag? because it is quite lovely, and sure beats my monstrosity of a laptop bag.
i feel the same way as you.. i always want to be one of those people tapping away in borders with a coffee and a pile of magazines to read.. but i can’t quite get the hang of it.
Did that crimbo gift come as a freebie via the lovely Helen at LG by any chance? Disney Roller Girl seems to be using hers up a storm. We got one between us too, which Marie took ownership of but she has stored it away in a cupboard too scared to try it! I must make her bring it down for me to have a go on.
When I was in London I went to Shop@Maison but the bit downstairs was closed that day (a Monday). I was totally gutted.
Songy: Still need to buy some stuff to complete project…
QM: Indeed it did! How lovely of her to send it to my fave Brit bloggers…
It was actually something I was thinking of getting with a contract for work because then the sim-in-the-back 3g thing works better but with a bit of tweaking and a better battery, I can get it on the move…. no point in using it at home if you already have a computer…
Yes, they didn’t give a reason for closing I don’t think but I think the R word has something to do with it…I’m pissed really…there are other shops that are struggling too and the cruel reality is that it is the big chains that will survive this year…
I like your style and looove your notebook.I want to buy a pink lg notebook, from x series.:D…but…santa don`t come back.
oh i’m so jealous to see you skipping around soho. i’ve spend the whole weekend trapped in my bedroom with wisdom tooth agony and a boyfriend with severe tonsilitis. not fair!
Great photo story, and I LOVE your shoes x
great great post! so looking forward to your fashion week reports. by the way, love your coat
aaah I’m a ribbon fiend too.
Ribbons are fun
even if you don’t end up using them.
xD
but the kid robot display!
I loved them.<3
it actually dragged me down into the store
and I ended up with a walking robot pencil sharpner.
ok – i know i’m american, but what the heck is a ‘dongle’?? LOL
Sorry about your lack of success on your wi-fi adventure – but hopefully yummy Taiwanese food made up for it! I can’t get to grips with wi-fi either, the last time I ventured out to do some googling I ending up turning the air blue in frustration in the middle of a twee Knightsbridge cafe … the Kensington set did not look happy. π
I’m pleased I’m not the only person who gets confused by the new VAT pricings … but those lush ribbons look so worth it!
x
I think mobile blogging is a great idea, so its a shame it didn’t go to plan, but better luck for next time dont give up its a brilliant idea so worth another go, still a great blog though!x

I love your outfit!
Wiith mobile blogging, sometimes writing a post at home will come out more thoughout that one written on the run.

more importantly, who on earth are those boots by?? i want them!!
Carrie Leber: A ‘dongle’ is like a USB stick 3g modem that means you can go online anywhere with your laptop (well supposedly…) I don’t know what you guys call them over there… it’s like internet roaming…
Yo…. Miss.Lee… I bought the boots on eBay a while ago…. they’re sort of an odd random buy where the seller was a stylist and the boots were worn in a cheesy commercial… I think J.Lo did some similarly tacky-kind-of lace-up sneaker/trainer boots… I have no idea where you’d find them now though…
Will Broome is one of my fashion tutors!
Close proximity to xiao long bao seems like a worthy reason for mobile blogging. π
Oh,I had the same desktop picture as you. actually I used it since I found it in ur blog. haha, I really like it !
Ahh i love your outfit, blue tights and your shoes rocks π All those places you went to looks really awesome ! Love those old patisserie..
thanks for sharing !
brilliant ideas in here ….!
I’ve only used mine on the sofa so far as work has been mad quiet and cos of the yucky cold weather i’ve been staying at home! I’m completely flumoxxed (sp?) by the whole wi-fi/dongle business (no I didn’t know what a dongle was either). Do you have to pay extra for it? Does it go on your phone bill? Explain please! I really want to use mind for LFW so I need to learn to use it properly. I’ve only ever used the free wifi in some random cafe in Baker St and you were only allowed it for half an hour!!
PS, Susie I loved your day-in-the-life report, that was fun!

i love it. and the whole outfit is great. for a girl with not much shopping time on her hands… you really do pull it together.
wait! i’m back already. those white boots are great! i’m having a white shoe/boot moment. they freshen up winter for sure! and just realized there is a pastel vest i HAVE to get at my local thrift store… as random as that is.
Oh my goooosh I really do love your shoes. Reminds me of those white docs you had.
Awww I love that coat! It’s so baggy and still very cute π
Great Site and style. What do you think about http://www.venerastore.com
Hmmm very nice and good blog, Regards
I think everything posted was very reasonable. But, what about this?
suppose you were to create a killer title? I ain’t suggesting your information is not solid, however suppose you added something that grabbed folk’s attention?
I mean The Blogging on the Go that Didn
